    Good day, fellow scalies,

This was supposed to be a post in the Battle Reports section, detailing how my new lord managed to fight the arrogant High Elves to a standstill with just the most basic troops available to him.

I refer, of course, to the second battle my Slann master recently fought, which followed his awesome defeat of the Druchii raiders chasing me after my escape.

So there I was, trying to remember what had happened in precise detail, that I may relate it to all. I was somewhat vague as to the details of the High Elf war host, so I rang up their general on the phone...I mean, scrying stone, and asked if he would please help me out with some of the details.

He flatly refused. And then he told me why.

During our last battle, a 2250 encounter, he had been playing almighty Teclis as his primary spellcaster. Granted, a powerful magician, yet frail as a Lustrian cucumber out of season. By his 3rd turn, he was frustrated at his placement of Teclis, having put him safely inside a well-protected unit which was a little too far out of range. So he moved the mage out of the unit and marched him forward that he might cast something useful to him and devastating to us.

He got off one good spell (I don't remember which, he refuses to tell me), and then came our turn.

My Slann master wheeled and moved to meet this puny caster, and as luck would have it, managed to cast Conflagration of Doom.

Right on Teclis' heavily swathed and crowned head.

To add insult to injury...Teclis died. He took a wound from the initial hits, then rolled two 1's for the further 2 hits, and was wounded by both.

So upset is this High Elf general, he refuses to assist me until he's had a rematch, in style.

To that end, on Saturday we have scheduled a whopper 4000-point-a-side grudge match. I shall thus be reporting on that instead.

For future reference: never ask for help from a commanding officer who recently lost his most precious little wizard.

Still...looking forward to doing it again...

    Yours in scales,

Ahh congrats on the win. Teclis really is a glass hammer.

My memory is bad, so I probably wouldn't even remember the details you asked and couldn't help, but I know most of my opponents would help even after a loss.. Oh well.

Thanks, but I'm afraid I might have forgotten to mention...the battle turned out to be a draw. And even then, only just. With our crack troops off on vacation, we were barely able to hang on to the draw at the end of 6 turns.

I think this is the reason he wants a rematch on Saturday. Hopefully this time we'll be more prepared. Unfortunately, the larger point value means he'll start fielding dragons, griffons and the like.

    Skink Bazooka, anyone?

Yeah it is weird at large point values,... Bigger things can be taken, but with a lot more troops they seem to have less of an effect overall. Obviously it helps if you can deal with them, but it is less essential, especially if you can hold them for a turn or two with a standard unit.

Don't forget your carnosaur at 4k, to eat whatever it wants. ;)

Just a little thing but against Teclis the Blood Statuette of Spite is really good, bound speel level 5, and Teclis is only toughness 2! If you can get it off

I'll back that up. The statuette of spite does really help. I tend to use it when i've got a few left over points and know my opponent has a wizard or two I can irritate with it. I've never used it on teclis, but i'd assume it'd work just like anything else you're trying to take out with the statuette...
1)Wait til the end of the magic phase on a good turn where your oppoent has exhuasted his supply of dispel dice... ie don't just whip it out on the first turn like many newer bound item users do with thier one shots.
2.)Laugh uproarously when a massive points sink magic user can't pass a toughness test to (literally) save his life, cause by a ...25pt? magic item

I can't believe someone would field such a high priority, high damage, low defense target and not expect it to be killed!
