Hello all, So I'm playing in my first 800pt tournament in a few weeks, and I'm wondering how useful Cold One Cav are in a 800 pt battle. I've been working on my riders http://www.lustria-online.com/threads/cold-one-cavalry.13042/, but they're just so expensive to field. Are they worth taking in smaller point games? I love the look of mine, so I want to be able to use them at some point, but I also don't want to get steamrolled at my first tournament. Are there certain point battles that Cold One Cav really shine? Thanks, Chris
Well they are better than they used to be, and even with the optional spear they are a point or two cheeper than the last book, and the cold ones fo an extra attack and the riders got the predatory fighter rule. for a low point game I would consider them without spears, with a standard bearer and musician, and definately with a mounted Scar Vet.
If you want to take them you can give it a try. At this point lvl they should actually be quite good since there wont be much stuff that can deal with their 2+ armorsave. Definetly wouldn't take spears! A Unit of 5 with a Standart comes at 160pts. If you put a Scarvet (probably your general) in that unit you have a real hammer.
At low points they should do great! I'd take em without spears and send them at the biggest block of light infantry I could find then grind my way through em.
I'd rather have 12 temple guard. 18 S5 attacks every round instead of 10 S4 @ WS4 and 10 S4 at WS3. Plus the ability to pack a magic banner. Stupidity can be a game wrecker, especially at low points. -Matt
I forgot to mention, but for this tournament one standard bearer can be upgraded for free to a BSB and has the unbreakable quality, so the unit has to be destroyed/broken in combat.
