Hi, I'm new here. I just came back to the hobby after a short pause for about 16years. Back then i just painted the models i wanted, but now i want to learn aos and start playing. I went with rule of cool and ended up here. I just got the battleforce as an early birthday present and I could use some advice on what i shouls assembled them as. Keep in mind that i barely know anything about the rules and what is good yet. So I've done the bastiladon and left both weapons loose to be able to switch them. And I've done all 6 as rippers. The question i have now is what do you prefer for skinks, and why. Was thinking about going for boltspitters and star bucklers. Then Carno or Trog? Rule of cool in my book says trog but then again, maybe it's terrible. Also what would you suggest i should add later? Sorry for the long post, and looking forward to going into battle.
Welcome aboard, Most players run their Skinks with boltspitters and shields due to the fact that when you take them as a unit of 40 they get a buff, Carny is usually better than Trog. To add I would build to a battalion namely Shadowstrike Shadowstrike you need. 1 Skink priest or starpriest (Starpriest) 2 units of Skinks or Chameleon Skinks (Skinks) 1 Unit ot Terradons or Ripperdactyls (Rippers) So you nearly have the shadowstrike just add more skinks and a priest a match winning 1k Shadowstrike would look like this courtesy of @LizardWizard Here is the list I pretty much always run at 1k: Allegiance: Seraphon - Mortal Realm: Ghur LEADERS: Skink Starpriest (80) - General - Command Trait : Master of Star Rituals - Artefact : Gryph-feather Charm UNITS: 6 x Ripperdactyl Riders (280) 4 x Razordons (160) 40 x Skinks (240) -Boltspitters & Star Bucklers 10 x Skinks (60) -Meteoric Javelins & Star Bucklers BATTALIONS: Shadowstrike Starhost (180) TOTAL: 1000/1000
1) skinks work (probably) at their best when fielded small units. 10 skinks are not going to inflict any significant damage, so at that point better to use the range. Boltsplitter. No reason to equip them for melee: if they can, they will disengage via Wary Fighters, so take always the bucklers. 2) firstly build a carno, hands down. When you'll have a Slann and you'll start playing with summons, then it will be the moment to have also a Trog. 3) IDK if you have other models, but you need absolutely a Slann. Then a astrolith bearer and a Engine of the Gods / Stegadon. Razordons are another good pick.
Cool! I have a starpriest. So i guess i need some more skinks then. How do battalions work, say i build to Shadowstrike, can i add whatever i want to that, or is it a case of "this is what you can have"? Scar Vet or Old Blood best for carno? Also from what i gather it is pretty point less to get the battletome? Better to wait and hopefully there will be a new one soon?
You can only have what it states for a battalion, each battalion will give buffs to the units in it and a unit can only be part of one battalion. Most build Scar vet for his command ability Yep hang on, you don't really need it all the warscrolls are on GW site and point values can be had from warscroll builder, you could get the Generals handbook but again that should be updated this year. https://www.warhammer-community.com/warscroll-builder/
Welcome! Yeah the Battletome is a nice book, but from a gameplay perspective it is pretty much worthless now. Getting more Skinks is a good plan. As for the bataillon: Unless the bataillon warscroll specifically says so, you have to bring exactly what is mentioned there. So in case of the Shadowstrike: - Starpriest OR Priest - 2 units of EITHER Chameleon Skinks OR Skinks. (Can be one of each) - 1 unit of Rippers OR Terradons The units may have any allowed size though. So Skinks between 10 and 40 in increments of 10, Chameleons up to 20, in increments of 5, and Rippers or Terradons up to 12 in increments of 3.
Thanks! Shame i thought that the battleforce would be playable out of the box. Maybe I've missed something
Well, by definition it is playable out of the box. The "Open" and "narrative" play modes allow bringing any models you want. Just not in the matched play mode with points.
If I'm not mistaken you can make the battleforce box add up to exactly 1000 pts if you build all 6 rippers and if you put a scar-vet on your carno. Definitely playable out of the box for smaller point games
Ah i see! That sounds like a good place to start then. Can't wait to start painting! Also something i maybe should ask, are there like "chapters" or what its called, or can i just paint them how i like? Sorry for spamming.
Keep also in mind that, to choose Scarvet over Oldblood as carno rider,: Scarvet is weaker than the Oldblood but doesn't suffer -1 rend ScarVet command ability buffs our troops Oldblood Command ability buffs heroes (and himself) Basically, the scarvet is a strong model, that gives support to troops, while the Oldblood deals far more damage and can easily act as lone wolf.
