My aim with this list is to show off as many of the wonderful Lizardmen miniatures as possible while still hopefully retaining enough force to knock out a few teeth here and there. Painting and modelling is more important to me than being ultra-competitive, but I will still fight as hard as I can with what I bring. I've pretty much settled on the list below as it includes almost all the minis in the Lizardmen range and still seems pretty good from a gaming perspective. Some of the choices are obvously sub-par (the CoC stick out), but mediocre rules and great looks is a battle-worthy combo in my book. Having said that, I have spent a lot of effort moving stuff around and trimming the fat, and I feel it's about as streamlined as it gets - feel free to disagree, of course. I would like to know if you guys think the list has any glaring weaknesses, what I need to look out for etc. Also I have no idea what lore the Slann should use, so if you have suggestions, please let me know what lore(s), and why. Without further ado, * * * Slann Mage-Priest - Mystery, Rumination, Consciousness - BSB: Standard of Discipline - Arabyan Carpet - Dispel Scroll 20 Saurus (S, M) - Spears 24/3 Skrox (S, M) 2 x 5 Chameleons 3 Terradons 6 Cold One Cavalry (S, M) - Gleaming Pennant 3 Salamander Hunting Packs I don't have Rare allowance to include extra handlers so I figure it's smart to put all of the Sallies together to share the ones they come with. Would it be better to let one Sally run solo? Ancient Stegadon Total: 2,000 points (yes! good luck!). * * * Input?
I'd be nervous about fielding an army with only 2 rank-n-file units, even if you do have a couple of additional hammers in the cav and stegadon. This might work for you, though. According to the FAQ, the Slann cannot have the Arabyan Carpet (he is not, technically, on foot). If your slann is going to be out there running around on his own, I'd suggest the lizardmen item that bumps up his ward vs ranged attacks to a 2+. That will save you grief when facing skaven, dwarves, and magic-heavy armies. I'm surprised, in your "one of everything army" that you don't have any Razordons. I'd pull one of your sallies out and put in a razordon.
hi looks like a cool list but i think the saurus units are too small. for the slann, i recomend lore of heavens (my favourite) and higher state of conciusness or however you spell that... 500 pts on rare, thats on the dot lol, what you could do i to run a skink priest and mount him on a ancient steg with engine of the gods witch can give your saurus units a little buff so you might not need more of them... if I´d do a "figure" list, I´d definitely go with an oldblood on carnosaur, but then the entire list would be changed dramaticly... hope i helped somewere xD my best //metallhead
Thanks for your replies! You both suggest that I get more/better infantry, and it turns out the Slann can't fly, huh... sigh. Not infantry, what a ridiculous FAQ. I guess speed won't keep his ass out of trouble then - time to demote him from illegal stealth bomber to bargain bin version, and buy a unit of Temple Guard with the points saved. More infantry, more variety. Excellent. It has also been pointed out that I lack a Razordon. The reason is pretty simple: I have no idea what to do with it in-game. Short range, few average hits, don't melt armour, that stupid stand & shoot FAQ... I'd love to include one but this list is soft to begin with and I'd hate to give up one of my hardest units in favor of something practically useless. Is there anything one Razordon (can't afford any more) does well, anything at all? Anyway, here's Mk. 2: * * * Slann Mage-Priest "Elcheapocapra" - Rumination, Mystery - BSB - Earthing Rod 20 Saurus (SM) 24/3 Skrox (SM) 2x5 Chameleons 3 Terradons 5 CoC (S) - Gleaming Pennant 14 Temple Guard (SM) Ancient Stegadon 2x1 Sally - Extra snacks * * * Yay or nay?
If it were me, I would drop the CoC (Unless you want them for the way they look). I would use those points to take at least 16 TG (20 would be better). I would round out the chameleons to at least 2 units of 7. Then buff up the core with the left over points.
They're mostly there because cavalry always looks impressive, and I want some (and honestly, while overcosted I think they look pretty tight on paper). I know most of the units are underpowered, but that's the price I have to pay to field this many different minis. I will probably use the next thousand points buffing stuff and buying toys for the Slann, but for now quantity rather than quality of units is king. Speaking of, I'm still in the dark about the Razordon. Any comments on that?
The Razordon can be used to protect your flanks. Although, it is much weaker in 8th edition (the salamander rules now). The strength in a razordon is their stand and shoot ability. I have never fielded them myself (I started in 7th edition and never purchased the models).
So basically they're no good unless your opponent is an idiot... I think I'll pass. Thanks for the feedback though, I really appreciate it!
yeah I think boosting your core (saurus in particular) would be a good choise. I always run Sallys instead or razors for 2 resons: 1. i dont have the modell (yes, lol) 2. I think the salamanders are sooo much beteer in the 8th edition. I´ll give you more later, but I relly g2g now so, for now, cheers!
More Saurus, everyone says... so be it: - Ancient Steg becomes regular Steg (upon closer inspection the giant blowpipes aren't that hot, and this one is just as good at catching cannon balls). - 1 Sally looses a snack. Both are merged into a single unit to share what snacks remain. - Instead of current gear, Slann gets: BSB, Rumination, Soul of Stone, Plaque of Tepok. One less spell, better miscast protection. Seems allright. + And with the points saved, 5 Saurus are added to the block, for a total of 25 bodies. Looking forward to your feedback, metal dude \m/ ...and I'd like to know what happened in '68 to make that the year of metal! Seems like I've got some listening to do. Edit: oh and here's the updated list to make things easier: Slann Mage-Priest "Elcheapocapra" - Rumination, Soul of Stone - BSB - Plaque of Tepok 25 Saurus (SM) 24/3 Skrox (SM) 2x5 Chameleons 3 Terradons 5 CoC (S) - Gleaming Pennant 14 Temple Guard (SM) Stegadon 2 Sallies - 1 extra snack Keep in mind that the purpose of this list is variety as well as playability. I want to field as much different stuff as possible so I can see how it works and what I like, and have greater choice of units combos to field when I expand. So feel free to tinker with the units in the list, but don't remove stuff unless you really feel it must be done for some reason or another... As always comments and opinions are most welcome, even if my list is slightly retarded!
haha, love your humor dude! well what I was thinking whas that since black sabbath *IMO* "invented" metal and were formed in 1968, that´s at least the YEAR of the BIRTH of metal. easy logic to me but it might appear a little wierd to you guys lol. I think thats a pretty ultimate list if you want to show of your models. are you going to play against any especial opponent or?? hope i´we straighted out at least one question mark
