I've been struck by inspiration by reading and watching some of the conversions and projects done for several other armies. But some in particular i like, especially the bravery in having other models than GW*s in your army (*GASP*). I've long been a fan of empire greatswords, but couldn't decide on a secondary army, since Daemons, WoC, and Beastmen also pulled in me, however, Empire has a selection i like more than the rest, and those things aside, i can always kill what i hate about playing Empire... The Empire! Yes you heard me. But mr. Teddy, how are you planning on doing just that? Well mr. person who seems inconspicuously much to be myself! I plan to make a mercenary force ofcourse! The plan is simply to start by getting a few models together for T&T (some 300ish pts in greatswords) and then going from there! Soon it'll be 500 pts of army with the ever downtrodden free company as core, and then onwards from there! Already bought all the characters i'll ever need (10 of them even!) so i seem set there! - now just to get a Plog up for both them and my lizzies somewhere around here! Great inspiration this place! anyone else want to tell and show (if i may be so bold to ask) of their ideas and adventures in "foreign" soil? !
I dunno man. It's a slippery slope once you venture out of Lustria. First it's unfaithful state troops, next it's mercenary Ogres, before you know it you're fielding Orcs and Squigs! We might have to ban you. (jk, do it)
Actually, orcs and goblins pulled as well so did ogres It'll be a secondary, full on fluff army, because i HATE most of the empire competitive models Mercenary cap'n and all, because ofc. i hate the empire as a united hard on "goody two shoes" being. "the heroic people of man and all" it can go somewhere to someone who likes that type of thing. I want gritty, bloody, unheroic characters! Fat warrior monks. Diabolical witch sorcerers teethering on the brink of chaos. A displaced angry noble to lead them. and a hired ex-general to provide his leadership. It'll be bloody and vicious, just like any army with ranked infantry should be, rather than just roll an armored pot into stuff or sending half/birds into thingies... and most of all, i want it to look cool!
I probably getting stigmatized for this but here goes. I have a little "Count as WoC" project going on Saurus - Chaos Warrios Templeguard - Chaos Warriors / Chosen Kroxigors - Chaos Trolls / Chaos Ogres Old stegadon model - Gorebeast Chariot New Stegadon model with Engine - Warshrine Cold ones - Chaos Knighs Old Carnosaurs (on smaller base) - Skullcrushers Slann- Sorceror on disk Salamanders / Razordons - Conversion for Daemonic mounts ...im not that far yet though
Really Empire? they sent some dumb explorer over here 3 times, 3 TIMES. jk empire is really cool, i played a game vs empire on saturday, i lost, i didnt have alot of core painted.
Sounds cool Phatmotha. saving the money by not buying chaos and using lizards is ok i guess. how's your WoC adventure faring then? I just recently got my first 3 characters models (all alternative sculpts), so i haven't really started yet, and is only really ready for T&T @N810 - That army is marvelous, i think i'm getting there in painting skill, and might soon start my Plog up here at Lustria (which is the only forum i'm active, and going to be active in), but currently i'll have to finish my masterpeice so far, which is an ancient Stegadon. Perhaps i'll feel the mood to paint mr. Fernando Garcia afterwards.
oh the bit about that army is that is Goblins as a bretonian army, or the other way round, so it's kinda 2 armies in one.... So you could do a Orc/Empire army.... (Couldn't rember where I saw it before). but there is oneof them on warseer too. or maybe a Lizardmen/Empire army...
still in the planning phase im afraid Im able to field a 2400pts count as army. Just not the one I like
I', not quite there in Green stuff handling skill yet (at all), and my empire will stay emåire for now, but i might actually want to use that idea for other stuff later. Gobotonia looks awesome though, it's the same guy who made the empire orcs BTW, and also Lizardmen orcs
my first and main army is lizardmen but i picked up empire cause i really liked the whole steel faith and gunpowder manto they have going on and also i love they are constantly fighting off undead and chaos. i love how versatile they are (dont have my book atm but they got 8+ core choices) and several hundred ways of buffing them up. i mean sure humans are not the greatest fighters but my biggest victory with them to this day is when a group of swordsmen + warpriest managed to 1. hold their own against a pack of ogres. 2. they had the shield of faith active from the priest so 5+ ward + parry and blocked so many ogre hits and finally 3. made the ogres run from combat and successfully chased them down. i love the whole faith thing they got going even if it gets abit cult ish at times but they are a pretty drastic change from lizards.
I too, have been contemplating starting an Empire army. For me, I like the idea of an empire that is in a constant struggle against foes that are more powerful and more numerous. I've been so use to playing armies with powerful combat units, it would be interesting to play an army with a different approach. What your wanting to run reminds me of the days when Dogs of War had their own book. I came so close to running a pure Dogs of War army way back when. Every unit had a back story and special rules, it was great. I know it has been a long time since you originally posted, but have you made any progress?
I've bought the command set from different retailers than GW, but otherwise my money in pocket never grew enough for this purchase. I'm still quite eager so start it at some point though!
When I'm done with my Lizards, I'm planning to do a Morr themed Empire army. Its going to be epic. I should be done with my Lizardmen in approximately 3 1/2 years...
Well, I finally sold my Orcs & Goblins and then bought a used Empire army from a old friend that doesn't play anymore. Nice how things work out. So far I've played 2 skirmishes and one 2000 point battle. The skirmishes were wins and the 2k game ended in a draw. I've really enjoyed them so far and went on a painting craze this last week after some oral surgery and the free time that followed. I set up an account on the Empire Forum to figure a few things out (same account name there as I have here if you join it) and here is a great site I plan on making a few purchases from. Some are out of the fantasy time frame, but there are 4 or 5 boxes that are a steal and would be great in an Empireish army: https://www.perry-miniatures.com/index.php?cPath=22_62&osCsid=klcfvci7mj4mggr74pasntu3g6 There are a few other sites I was referred to, so here is the forum conversation I started if you want to check them out: http://warhammer-empire.com/theforum/index.php?topic=49782.msg923748#msg923748
