Hi, I'm an avid 40k player who was had a battle for skull pass for quite some time, but enough of my friends are now getting into fantasy too and I now feel it is the right time to take the plunge as well.

I've considered Lizardmen because they are really cool, and I am typicly drawn to less humanoid factions. I really like the fluff, and when I asked my good friend who is definatly getting into Lizardmen what an Engine of the Gods does, he said it shoots lasers :jawdrop:. My plan was to get an army book and a stegadon, put a skink priest on it as a lord, and proxy the troops with my starter's dwarves and goblins untill I can get a battalion (and maybe a slightly cooler leader).

But I am also rather drawn to Dark Elves, Dwarves, or Ogres, so I was hoping maybe some stories about why you guys like Lizardmen (and maybe some epic tales of epicness) could help me decide. I'd appreciate it :D.

Dinosaurs! And the Slann, in all his aspects.
The fact that the slann had such preeminent magical powers, got me into the lizardmen and is still what I like best of our lizzies.
Always liked fantasy, magic and stuff ;)

The fluff also tells of mighty aeons knowns as the old ones, and gives us history long before the collapsing polar gates and the errution of chaos. Lizardmen is indeed the most ancient race( yeah I know there was beeings like dragons and dragon ogre shaggoths around) But Lizardmen was the first "Imperium" and is also thouse who have mustered the largest army ever to have walked the earth as they faced mighty legions of Deamons spawning all over the world.

The world has never seen such a strong wizard as Lord Kroak. Taught by the Old One Tepok himself, he has single handly probably saved the lizardmen civilisation from total collaps at the defence of Itza. (full fluff in the Army book)

As of matter of epic'nes there is no other army as epic as the Lizardmen IMO.

I'm not so sure the engine shoots lasers.. It does have a direct damage effect that it can use which is possibly a laser, it also can shield your army and boost your magic. And it boosts the priest on top. A very cool upgrade for both magic and non-magic armies.

The new stegadon models are what pushed me into finally collecting lizardmen, they are brilliant! And the carnosaur is pretty cool too. If you want a tough army that has a good versatility between great combat and really hard to kill, or powerful (among the best in the game) magic, or fast skirmishing light infantry, or huge monsters, or a combination of all the above then go for LM. :)

Dwarfs can be a bit of a flat army, they are very good at shooting and are rock hard in combat. To get the maximum potential out of them you need to hide in a corner and shoot everyone approaching, then when they get close, use your still full units to mop up their softened ones. They are strong, but slow, and I dislike the models, though lots of people like them.

Ogres don't seem particularly powerful, I have never had much trouble beating them. I agree they are an impressive looking force though. And Dark Elves are very powerful, they easily have the potential for a list to be overpowered, or they can be balanced.
