Alright, since the season of frights and horrors is approaching, I've decided to tackle the scariest thing in our hobby..... that's right finecast! (insert lightning sounds and horrors movie scream here)
I'm not gonna talk about miscasts, cleanup, or air bubbles, no what I'll be doing is checking how finecast reacts to various chemicals, elements and if you could potenctially make a mold for duplicating some bits.

With that said stay tuned for more coming soon (for real this time, I don't need better equipment for taking good(ish) photos of sprues and flat/small pieces)

    Experiment 1: finecast and acetone
Im looking at what different chemicals do this type of resin in case i or someone would want/need to strip the paint of a resin model
(So of course I started with the most extreme option)

Ok so this is how a resin sprue looks like after sitting in acetone for 24 hours. It's very soft, a little larger then before and a lot more fragile(as you can probably tell from the crack that showed up naturally). I've left it out to dry now, and I'll report back with the results as soon as I can. received_2776761875950476.jpeg

    And a size comparison

Okay so about the progress..., after leaving the acetone soaked finecast out to dry for about a day it shrunk and turned this weird, little transparent black, it also is now much harder.

And here's a comparison between all 3 stages of the process

Verdic: maby avoid using acetone with the finecast/resin minis Unless you want a smaller, cracked version of your model. Using it to strip paint is also not recomended as the softened mini is easier to damage.

Next part I'll try to tackle heat and bending, plus making molds of resin bits
