well this is very important to my 2k point army, and it determines whether or not i can afford that second skink priest. so basically here is my question. If i have a rank of saurus 5 across and 3 back (for a total of 15 saurus) can i give only the front two rows of saurus spears and save 5 points on the back row by having them keep their normal weapons? its not as if they benefit from the spears special rule so i dont see why not.

Unfortunately you can't do that. The whole unit must be fitted with the same weapons.

Slannfrog is right. Every model in the unit has to be outfitted the same (unless there's a character in the unit). The reason for this is because you can change formation. Say for instance, you had a 5x3 unit, and you increased the front to 8, so you have an 8x2 unit. As it takes casualties, it would be unclear whether to remove a spear model or a non-spear model.
And really, 5 points isn't a whole lot. There's better ways of dropping points if you're only a couple over.

well it amounts to ten seeing as theres two units of fifteen, and im already dropping 50 points for something else. this was the easiest way to do it but i suppose you're right. i'll figure out another way
this is my current army list, not including the ten spear idea

one unit of ten skink skirmishers upgraded with a jav and shield for a total of 80 points
two units of 15 saurus each with a champion, musician, standard bearer, and spears for a total of 420 points
one unit of ten temple guard with a champion, musician, and standard bearer for a total of 195 points
one unit of five cold one calvary with a musician and standard bearer for 185 points
one skink priest, upgraded to level 2 and EotG for a total of 390 points
    one chakax for 335 points
and finally one Slann Mage-Priest upgraded to 3 DoA for a total of 375 points
this in total gives me 1980 points. somehow when i backtracked my list (you see i had changed it to fit in the second skink priest) i somehow lost 20 points. im not sure where though. anyways it would be great if anyone could give me suggestions on how to fit him in thatd be great

There's a couple of things you can try to reduce points:
    • Drop Chakax.
      Drop Javs and Shields.
Drop Command on Cold One Riders.
Or, alternatively, you could upgrade the points limit of the battle to 2250.

haha ive been so focus on getting 2k points that i forgot you could push the point limit. you're right i could drop chakax (hes a pretty expensive piece) but i like him alot and he'd be useful against the army i'll be playing against. anyways i actually managed to get my points to 1996 which is good, i managed to buff all my casters and keep my core units in the game and worth the points :) i ended up dropping the Cold one Calvary, which some may advise against, but i have read many battle reports and in most theyre too busy scratching their heads to know when to do something. if you'd like to see my new army list just ask, id be happy to show you. its def magic heavy but with good backup
