    Hey Everybody,

First time post on this forum. I've been playing Warhammer off and on for the last 14 years in a non-competitive setting. Usually I will just get a game together with some friends or family and have fun. Never played in a tournament, but I wish I had the time for one. I have Lizardmen, Dwarves, and Orcs/Goblins, the latter of which I rarely touch. Anywho... I've noticed that nobody seems to run ASF with an oldblood. Is it just me, or does this tactic seem overlooked? Our heavy hitters are so slow, I've found that other races tend to hammer us before we get the opportunity to unleash our cold blooded wraith upon them. A perfect example of this would be when my friend, who also has a lizard army, wanted to try them out against my dwarves. I was able to kill two oldbloods with that stunty, drunken, fire plug without taking a single wound, all due to ASF and a rune that doubles his strength against foes with T5 or higher. I was thinking that a really good build would be to give him the sword of swift slaying and the armour of destiny. Any thoughts on this build?

I've had some success running a Scar Vet with the ASF Sword against Dark Elves. Anything to get rid of their rerolls!

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I was reading on here and it seems a lot of people use cowboys with GW, which I can see as being pretty deadly against Ogres and other high toughness armies, but against anything fast, I feel like it can easily go sour.

    Welcome to the forum!

Sword of Swift Slaying is a useful item, but I don't give my Saurus characters ASF very often because they, so they rarely get re-rolls themselves. I prefer to give them 1+ Armor saves and the best Ward save I can afford and hope for the best. My local meta doesn't have a whole lot of elves though.

I have tried it once, but...

Well, in short, ASF isn't something I want, as Sword of Swift Slaying costs a ridiculous amount of points for a rule that is thrown around like candy.

In my meta, everyone and their mother have ASF build in. Paying out the ass for a rule they have baseline is pretty pathetic. Instead, I like going Great Weapons, because hey, I'm going to be hitting last regardless, and they'll have rerolls regardless as well... so might as well go all in on the damage.

7 Strength means I always wound on 2+, pretty much regardless of what they include in their list, and the -4 armour save is brutal against elves.

Hell, I'd prefer Fencer's Blades to Sword of Swift Slaying. Couple that with Glittering Scales, and laugh as everything suddenly hit him on 5+. That works far better than removing their rerolls, AND it makes you hit on 3+ almost always. +1 Attack is just topping on the cake.

And really, getting your Old Bloods to 1+ AS is incredibly easy. Not having a Ward Save is the only real downside, though the reduced chance to hit makes up for this, in my opinion.
