Is there any reference to Ogres in the Lizardmen rule book? I am thinking of using the ally rules to combine an ogre kingdom army with my lizardmen. I was thinking of using an all skink army (with a slann) and fill in the muscle with some ogre units. The army would have an overall movement of 6. I would capitalize on the movement to get to the oponent quickly and use the slann to buff the already tough ogre units. I was thinking fluff wise that the Slann had not recovered from the loss of Saurus from a battle and has had to hire Ogre mercenaries to fill in the army. What is some shiny pieces of rock to a slann?
It says in the BRB book under the section of allies that Ogres are neutral, and Lizardmen are good, so we can ally. I can't remember what type of allies we would be, so it might not be too good beefing up your ogres and depending on them if they have the possibility of leaving your army.
Considering that the current Lizardmen tack is, if I recall the fluff in the army book correctly, to wipe out all the creatures that are not part of the Plan, and that Ogres, as they are now, are not part of the Plan (they only became what they are now after human meddling, supposedly), I have a hard time imagining a Slaan taking them in like that. The Ogres of old, perhaps, but not these changed brutes. YMMV, of course.
Whilst my view of the new RB's allies is a bit biased in favour of removing it (Lizardmen will not ally with just any old guy, the only times they have allied with any other race that I can think of are both High Elves, one being the creation of the portal on Ulthuan, the other mentioned I think in the book where they arrived just in time to repel an attack on the elves before retreating back to the jungles) I think that the more mercenary type Lizardmen (Tichi Huichi and Co. spring to mind) could possibly ally with Ogres if they ever meet. Now, the chances of them meeting are exceedingly slim (both of them preferring almost opposite conditions to the other) with neither having much reason to come close to the other; the only plausible way I can think of is an Ogre war-band that was driven from their homeland and settled outside Lustria until the Lizardmen tried to move them on, finally agreeing to help them re-take their home if it got them to go away. However, that would only really work with Skink mercs. or the likes; a Slann would never abandon the jungle without exceedingly good reason, and would rather slaughter the intruders than risk them coming in further. As for them getting them to fill in for Saurus, unlike Saurus, Ogres are not cold-blooded killers, nor are they spawned with the innate hierachy that dictates where they stand. A saurus warrior wouldn't dare oppose even a Temple Guard, nevermind a Slann, but an Ogre has a completely different temperament and sight of the world, and cannot be ordered about as easily.
It depends on whether the Slann is zealous and xenophobic or contemplative and able to look at the bigger picture. A fanatical creature would not make an alliance even if it made sense, while someone sensible and less prone to acting quickly may well accept a short term alliance to fight a greater evil that will suit the overall plan more. I definitely think the Slann is the latter. One thing to note is that Ogres hail from the far east of the Empire, where Asia is on a real map, while Lustria is South America. So they would have to travel a loooong way to come across each other. But fluff aside, it has potential and I don't think ogres would unbalance a LM list much if at all.
I agree with Strewart (hehe). The Slann would accept an alliance. The Slann would also plan on ending that alliance as soon as possible (or maybe using up the Ogres to that purpose). The Ogres are in it for the loot anyway. A mercenary will do as directed for the payout.
