8th Ed. jungle poisons??

hi all, just wondering if skinks poisons work in combat ive had some people say it does and others it doesnt, also whats the situation with saves against poison attacks.

Skink hand weapons are not poisoned, all of their ranged weapons are.

The only saves that any victim of a poisoned attack gets is the armor save that they have. If you shoot something that has an armor save of 5+, if they fail the save, they take the wound.

Also, if you are not aware....

if you need a 7+ to hit when shooting, you do not benefit from the poison on 6s.

ok thanks, that clears it up, so theres not much point shooting at anything with a good save of say 2+ with skinks cos they will get a normal save and more than likely pass it, better off firing at lower armour infantry. i knew about no poison on 7's but its a good point

You will do better against little or no armor save, but if you throw 20 shots at a unit, you are likely to get one or two that will not make the armor save. The key is to stay out of that front arc and harass the heck out of you're opponent.

Probably the best use for them is against the big nasties on the battlefield. Very very few things have good armour and good toughness. Giants, monstrous infantry, ogres etc. all are normally hard to kill due to their toughness, but have little or no armour so poison still auto-wounds on a 6 to hit and you're golden.

Also think about using it on the super beasties of the battlefield. Massed skink fire was one of the best ways to wear down the s.tank before it got nerfed back down. Some will get through and the worse it is wounded the less chance your opponent will risk it.

Just on the point above that skink hand weapons don't get poison attacks, doesn't the BRB under poisons say that if a unit has poison then it counts for both their shooting and cc attacks?
Or is it that the Lizard book specifically staes for jungle poisons that only their javs and blowpipes have it? Thanks

"Jungle Poisons" are Specifically and only mentioned in the Lizardmen book.
and only their javs and blowpipes have it including the giant blowpipe and giant bow on the stegs.

Everybody else just has poisoned or poison weapons.
