I was hoping to get some insight on a small problem I have. I'm still new at assembling GW models so I was a bit stumped at the new Kroq Gar finecast model. The tail, one leg and both arms are not even close to being a fit for the body. Is this a common problem with the fine cast models? Do I contact GW or purchase some green stuff and fix it myself? I am just learning how to paint and have never had to use the green stuff yet so I really don't know how well that is going to go. Any tips or advise would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi, Marekai!

It's quite common for Finecast models to have casting failures, like misshapen body parts or broken/uneven surfaces. You can try to fix the problem if the damage is not too extensive. But since you say you don't have any experience, I'd advice against it, as it can be quite tricky. I have heard many reporting that GW will give you new parts or sometimes even new model to replace the broken one, so you should definitely contact them and ask how to proceed. Good luck with them and hopefully you'll get your awesome model to play soon!

Yea, tho old Metal one didn't fit the best either,
the fine cast is probaly worse since they are just
made a copy of the original and now worn out mold
to make the curent finecast mold...

My advise is try and carve down the protruding
bits in the joint until it fits propery,
also Green stufing the inevable gaps joints
would be a good time to get in some first hand evperience.

    Thanks guys,

Yeah I'm going to talk to the hobby shop I bought it from to see if he can get some results from his sales rep. The worst of it is the tail. There is a big enough gap that I would actually have to sculpt it a bit. Might not be a challenge for some of you but with me being such a newb its intimidating lol. If it were just a small piece worth only 10-20 dollars I wouldn't care and would do my best with it. If GW sends me a new model that would be great. I wouldn't mind trying to get creative with the one I have now. Some dinos tend to get tails bitten off in battle lol. Might even see if I can put some armor on it somehow.

Hmm... maybe a picture would help us diagnose the problem.... ;)

So I finally got a few pictures up for you to see my dilemma. Looks like I will need to get some practice with the green stuff.

If that's really how it fits, you don't need green stuff ... you need a new tail.

Hmmm.... Could we get a top view as well ?

It seems like the connecting joint might have to be carved down a bit. ;)

The side that i have connected I had to shave a bit to make it even fit like that. This model has been pretty awful. I am not sure what the face is suppose to look like, since this is the only model i have seen up close, but it looks like the snout is misshapen a bit and turning in a weird angle that wouldn't line up with the bottom jaw.

the only positive here is that you can now pose it which ever way you like. Or you can contact GWS and they should mail you a new one.
I had a Tyrion finecast model that came skewed and I phoned up. They sent out a brand new box express post. The second one came just as skewed as the first, but I couldn't be bothered so I used parts from my old metal one!

The resin kits are so much more fault prone than the metal ones. I'm not a resin fan

I'm definitely going to try to contact GWS or have the hobby store contact them. If I can get a free model I would be happy with that. My gf got a free gyrocopter because it was missing pieces. Still going to try and make this one work.

So far I have found that resin and metal are not much different with the flaws. My gf is attempting a twilight sisters/ forest dragon and not a single piece fits properly. It should all be easily filled with green stuff but it's a bit annoying paying so much for something that does not go together as it is suppose to.

When it happened to me, they didn't even want me to send in the busted one, but i'm not sure what your hobby store's policy is...

i've tried lining it up like that but one side on the tail was much wider than where it attaches to. I'll take a look at it again and see if i can make something work.

    I'm confident I can't make it any worse :D

Just make sure you can get it replaced before you hack it up. You've spent a hefy wad of cash on this badboy, don't want it to go to waste.

so i spoke with the owner of the hobby shop and he is going to speak with the rep he deals with to see what he can do. Hopefully he can convince them to send a new model. One of the legs is also far off from fitting but that I can at least use green stuff to fill in.

If they can't do anything for you, I'd speak directly to GWS. They've always been extremely helpful for me, but I'm from Australia, so I don't know where you're from or what your call centre is like...

From Canada. The rep they deal with gave us a free gyrocopter once because we had missing pieces so they may be able to help with this. can't say i blame them if not because I bought this piece long before I attempted to assemble it. Then I left it alone for a while because I had other things going on.

If it was a bad mold then I am sure they will be able to track the lot number to it and most likely have already had some complaints about that lot.
