Ran my Slann with a unit of 8 Krox in place of a unit of TG last night against DE and had a very successful go of it. The Slann (FoR, FoM, Lore of Life, BSB, Banner of Eternal Flame, Crown of Command) making him a Ghost Slann would have been even better but this was a friendly game. The unit was pretty epic, bulldozed everything in its path. And because Toad was a Life wizard anytime he cast a spell a Krox healed a wound, that combined with Throne of Vines, Earth Blood (Regeneration on a 5+) & Flesh to Stone (T+4) they just wouldn't die! Think this maybe my new build for a while.
This sounds like an interesting idea. I have a few questions about how you ran it: How wide was the unit? I can see it as 4,4,1 with out it getting too wide Did you include the Ancient? To accept challenges and what-not. What did the rest of your army (and your opponent's) look like? This unit would be very effective but you would have to be carefull of which units it got into contact with (i.e no Witches) How did you deat with challenges when they did come about? Decline with the toad and move him to the back? I think you are right, a ghost-slaan would make this unit rock hard. I'm wondering if the BoEF is the best choice though. Granted your opponent didn't have Dragon Princes but a t Dread loard with the Dragonsbane Gem (or PoK), Armor of Darkness (1+ save), crown, and good magic weapon could easily hold this unit up for ever. Thats not an uncomon build for a speed bump DL. That being said though, I might have to try this unit out vs. my brother's Nurgal Demon army this weekend
I can see this unit kicking butt in a lot of situations, but as for a tournament-build i wouldn't replace my TG with Krox. - You have no Lo,S! rolls against those nasty Purple suns/Pit of Shades flying about - Facing a death/shadow mage would probably mean a lost game. Cannons would tear up this toad too, but getting him as old as a ghost would remedy that . Running a 8 strong krox unit besides the TG is very nice from my experience though, you do give up that stubbornness, but they still hit like a truck while regaining from life spells.
Doesn't Lifebloom only effect characters? Not just multi-wound models? Correct me if i'm wrong, please, because it would make me happy (my rule book is sleeping at my freind's place so he can learn the rules) Also, that sounds like one unit that should not be messed with!
Lifebloom targets models, not charaters, so it is awesome in a Lizardmen army with stegs, sallies, krox and all our other multiwound models.
Yeah, the poster before me said he thought it was just characters. I am saying the wording is model, so include characters and all our other multi wound models.
I used a Horde formation Kroxigorunit as a host for my ethereal Slann with Crown of Command. I faced Dwarfs and I really suffered from the magical/flaming cannons.. The fact the the anvil slowed down my unit to half speed the whole game didn't help.. :/ I can see the same problem with the lack of lookout sir agianst magic oriented armies. A bit out of the subject butt I kind of prefer Saurus to TG as host for my slann nowdays /Morglumnecksnapper
Hi, all, new to this forum, but been playing lizzies now for almost 3 years. The problem i see with substituting krox's or regular saurus is that the SMP would have to be in the first row... I double checked it last night in the rulebook (pg. 43 under the Guardians heading). It would have been absolutely awesome to have it 2nd rank with krox's with Lore of Life boosts but when the fat toad has to be in the first rank, it gets a lot less sexy. Besides that, it would make for a pretty wide unit to have Kermit and at least 3 krox's next to him or 2 on either side...
slann would hang off the side, they have different base sizes. and your right, slann has to be up in the thick of it for saurus, but etheral can help with that a little
The Slann has the same Base size as the Krox, that´s no problem. It´s just the LOS... that 's the problem
