I recently started a Lizardmen army over Christmas. I have Empire, Orc, and Wood Elf armies already, but I have learned a lot more about painting and wanted to do a whole army at once with a very unified theme. I decided to start with core troops and reward myself with Stegadons and Carnosaurs when I finish the Saurus. Here are my first 5 saurus as test models. My photography is not the best and my lens is not made for closeups, but oh well. I have not completed the basing, but will be using 3 different colors of static grass, forest undergrowth, and some water basing for muddy puddles. My painting blog for all my miniatures can be found here (Just started it):http://oatbag-meatshank.blogspot.com/
Not bad at all, especialy for your first couple. As usual, I recomend a black wahs on the claws and teeth, a green wash on the green bits, and a brown wash on the gold bits, and the shields.
In spite of what the picture shows, there actually are washes on these guys. Sepia on the claws and spikes Thraka Green on the skin and the gold Sepia on the underbelly Also unsure about whether or not to keep the guys glossy or to coat them in armypainter dull coating.
I like a gloss on my lizardmen. It makes them look more like lizards in a hot, humid climate. I do not like that kind of on any of my other armies.
Excellent base, practical too. It should help it make base to base contact with enemies too (I find my Carnosaur dips down to low to make base to base contact with taller models such as elves.
I plan on using 3 different static grasses, forest undergrowth, and stone lizardment bits to base it. The cork is just for the bottom layer. Once I get the rider on the Carnosaur, I will base it and upload it. The base also helps with saurus, stegadon, etc. in keeping them from not lining up right. I am slightly afraid that everything will look too tall.
I have been working on my Cygnar army and just got back over to my Lizards. Here is what I have done thus far. The pics on the Scar-Vet are blurry and not good quality, but oh well.
Very nice green scheme. Green isn't my favorite for lizardmen (then again I have Orcs & Goblins, so I already have a green army), but you made it look very nice. Keep up the good work and keep the pics coming!
Can we get some good quality photos of the individual razordons, please? I love the model, and always keen to see how people paint them.
This is the only one I have right now. A little bit too much light. I might get more later. And some Skinkalinks. Wasn't sure if I should give bone colored back spines, but I think it makes them pop.
I'm also loving the green scheme you've chosen. I love your execution of it and I'm looking forward to seeing more of your army.
I think you made a good decision with the bone white back spines, they look great and make the green much more interesting!
Currently working on a Stegadon and, although I may be building it up too much, I think it is the best model I have painted. I hit the jackpot on the color scheme of the dino IMO. Should be done by the end of the week.
Wow, it has been a while. I finished this model a while back and never took photos of it. Here is my Steggie!
Really good looking stuff you have here. You seem to move along pretty quickly and maintain a good paint quality as well. Admirable
Here is my Bastiladon w/Solar Engine. Just finished the Solar Engine and crew last night. The Bastiladon has been done for a while.
