Hey guys, headed to a 2500pt mini tourney and took stock of my troops

    28 Saurus
    2 FC

    13 TG
    FC

and 3 bi saurus figures that could swing either way.

Do I go two 18 saurus units (FC and spare guy included)
    17
    Or
    31 Saurus (FC)
    19 TG

if it matters rest of the army will be a 22 skink Krox unit
    3x10 skink skirmishers
1 steg, 2 sallies, Slann, Priest, Scarvet

    Any thoughts?
As of right now I'd have to lean towards the two smaller blocks.
Also are ranks of 5 the min for infantry now?

well I have a few questions.
    1) what Lore are you thinking of taking with the slann?
    2) would you prefer hand weapon + shield or spear + shield?
    3) not so important but can still swing things either way, is the steg ancient or regular?

Big blocks is only good with lore of light otherwise if you get a pit of shades its a waste of points.

So if I go two blocks, as I'm leaning towards. Life is the way to go?
The only big block I have is the TG then and I'm geting magic resistance 3 for them.

yeah, life will be able to help those small blocks stick around a bit more with its spells (+2/4 toughness, Regen 5/4+, and D3/6 resurrected models).

The one thing I would suggest would be to consider changing the regular steg for an ancient, one less attack doesn't mean much when you consider thunderstomp and impact hits but the ancients higher strength and (this is the bit I'm getting at) the better armor save will allow the steg to get stuck in. This would allow you to use your stegadon as an anvil and one of your smaller saurus units to be the flank charge. Plus at BS3 you are going to be hitting on 5's most of the time and with a single shot each turn if you stay still means you're not going to do very much with the stegadon at all, the Giant Blowpipes, even with the shorter range you will find are superior.

I ran a regular steg last game so I'll give the ancient a shot this time. I could find the points by making my skirmishers, cohorts or cutting 10 skinks.

from my experience, big blocks ftw.

my 2400pt army (basically same size tournament), i took:

    25 saurus, FC
    25 saurus, FC, spears,
21 TG, FC (obviously with slann)

i finished 2nd out of 24, so i must have done something right! :p

I'm a little short on models is the problem. Gonna browse ebay to maybe pickup a few more of the OOP saurus so they match.

    Nova,
Ran with the ancient steg with blowpipes and it went fantastic.
Turn one charged a Doomwheel and one shotted it.
Turn two, turned to setup the next charge and blowpipes away a weapons team.
Turn three, one a +13 combat resolution verus 8 rat swarms (with help of a saurus block)

    I like him.

At 2500 points, I'm running 20/20 saurus warriors and 20 Temple guard and it works really well with Light. Getting ASF, plus 1 attack and double movement out on a few units used in tandem can walk through almost any other unit. Also, as Im happy with these slightly smaller units, it frees up points for me to spend else where :)
