So having been convinced to keep my lizardmen I thought I would try to be a better member of the community and post more often.

I actually put my lizards up for sale here on the forum but a buddy convinced me that I love my lizards and it was comp that was killin me. I only get to play about once a month at the moment due to family and Uni commitments and everytime I do it seems to be etc comp.

I have nothing against comp it think it can allow you to see other units you might not always see, but I am not a big tourney player anyway and if I want to take something for fun then I will. It was apparent that always playing comp meant I couldn't take the lizard list that I wanted to.

So my thought of the day is, comp is both good and bad.

"Hello fence. Mind if I sit on you?"

Out of curiosity, what is the list that you would like to run? Lizardmen aren't terribly comped - the main thing that maybe sticks out in my mind is the 450pt unit limit.

I've never played using etc comp, and for that I'm grateful. The lists I normally see for it don't inspire me.
I've played swedish (which I like because you know what your paying for) and no comp, which was fun, but lets face it, other armies do it better *cough* WoC/HE *cough*. We had 2, yeah that's right 2 Teclis in the tourney. That bugger is nuts.

I think comp is important for competitive play. Just as long as it's not the same comp every tourney. I hear there is more then 1 competition you can go to over in the UK, why not look for non-etc comp events. Might be forced to look at your army in a whole new light.

I'm wondering what it is that your not allowed to take in lizards? Jay in right I struggle to think of anything you can't field in etc comp. Death slann takes a bit of a hit, but everything else is pretty free.

I like about 6 skirmish units 8 if chameleons fall into that.

I agree that comp is good. Trying to get people to play swedish. I don't really do all that much tourney stuff but we have a small play group and others do tourney a bit so like to practice.

Think it had just become a bit stagnant and I need to freshen it up.

I personally find zero benefits to comp systems. Especially since the mentality often seems to be "Lets houserule everything!" immediately followed by "But not these rules, we wont touch them!"

Case in point, I've had a comp that gave more points to some armies, limited the use of the slann, and didn't even fix Tictaq'to, even when it was explicitly requested, with the reason that it would be "messing with the rules for no reason", which the other things CLEARLY aren't.

Though maybe I just haven't tried a good comp system. My advice, however, would be to find someone to play standard, by-the-book games with. Lizardmen aren't the only army regularly hurt by comp systems, and I can assure you that there are other players who would love to play a regular match, rather than the heavily houseruled ones that Comps inherently are.
