hey guys, i've had a few games in the last couple weeks and i have really tried to make a nice balanced list that i could use in a tournament. The first game a played was against a dark elf army, other than a cauldron and lokir he didn't have any super hard hitting things i easily took the game by tabling him on the 6th turn. i then used the same list against a skaven army, but he came with 3 ratling guns 2 warplighting cannons and 3 casters 2 at level 4. now in my list i have been exparementing with not taking a slann and just 2 priests so i couldent take his magic and i got toasted on the 3rd turn. I have read the other post about the hell pit and other large creatures but he doesnt have any, so im wondering what does lizardman have that can stop the 30-40 kills that happen in his shooting. I am using a eotg but even with the 5 plus ward i still get raped. help is greatly appreciated
Nothing wrong with taking a Slann, if people in your group are finding it too powerful downgrade the lore to a weaker one (life, light and shadows are pretty powerful) and maybe take a few things off him. EotG aren't really worth taking these days by the way. Skaven can be a very powerful and unstoppable army. It sounds like the one you faced wasn't actually as bad as they could be, and if you faced it again with the same list you may well beat it since a lot of the time Skaven machines misfire and blow themselves up. The best way to deal with them is skink poisoned shots and terradons. You might also be able to knock off a ratling gun if you get to point a magic missile at it.
If you can take 2 priests and 1 slann (lore of light). Take the signature spell (iceshard Blizzard) on the 2 priests. That way, you can shut down 3 war machines per turn (2 with iceshard blizzard and one with Net of amyntok). Not to mention the 12 bubble that pha's protection grants the units around the slann. With the exception of the Net, your opponent must roll a 4+ to even fire a weapon that does not use ballistic skill. The net will be tested on the crew's str (probably 3). If he fails, he takes d6 str4 hits to the crew. Add in some chameleons and terradons and you are good to go.
agains SKAVEN i have found Terror- and Panic-causing thing(no matter what they are) really effective..I really like taking out their heroes quickly so that they wont use their leadership! Fast cavalry to reach their machines would be really useful!
