Lately there have been "leaks" around the net that GW's calender says High Elves release in APR or May Tau in May or Jun Lizardmen in Jul or August <-- where most sources say August. I just started playing 2 months ago and is rather thrilled that LM "already" receives an update (hopefully this is not empty talk) Ive pretty much been an information junkie on the subject ever since it came to my attention, and the following is a collection of general speculation on the forums combined with my own thoughts and wishes: Infantry: - Aged Saurus - Elite infantry (My speculation / wish) Its not that we have bad infantry, its better than decent, its just that we dont have that truly Raw infantry option. I envy HE for their whitelions and swordsmasters, and cant really justify it further than that I want something accordingly. - Templeguard bringing a Slann becomes Core (the TG, not the slann) ( my wish ) It would be neat, thats all! Monsterous infantry: - "War-spawn" Kroxigor = slightly better statline, regular krox becomes core through Skrox units (My speculation / wish) I (and many others) have always wondered who decided that both Saurus and Kroxigor should have a S4 T4 stateline. Since kroxigors are spawned for hard muscle work and are twice the size it seems logical that they should be stronger. I know they get +2 from their GW's but if it only takes S4 to swing those massive axes why would Saurus regiments use those toothpicks? They dont have to be minotaurs, they just need to make a little more sense. They are not that great alone and they are only "okay" in skrox units, and thats just because most people tend to misunderstand the rules (to my understandig): if all skinks ranks behind them die, which they do offently, the kroxes are up for taking the wounds, and they do so on the FRONTRANKS toughness...thats T2. Enjoy your Butter Kroxs. (correct me if im wrong, page reference please!) Monstrous Cavalry - ankylosaur mounted Saurus (General Speculation) Still rooting for these guys as ive loved those 4 legged fortresses since I was a kid. Monsters: - "Large Flyer" (Toruk anyone?) (General Speculation / wish) - Carnosaur becomes available through something else than a Lord choice. (General Speculation) - "Dread Saurian" from the Monstrous Arcanum book. (General Speculation) Other thoughts: - salamanders WILL get nerfed and Razordons will move further away with new changes. - Slann will change completly, again. This dosnt have to be bad. - We get "lore of the old ones" , or maybe sotek? - baby and ancient stegs get merged - terradons will change (no clue to what) - CoC will receive a point drop, and few changes. - I hope for some kind of spawnmarkings. Items: no clue, not severly impressed with the current inventory but im rather blank what changes could be. How much of this seems possible / realistic to you guys? and have you heard something I havent? (here goes the junkie again).
I think you are a bit off on some things. If anything the salamanders will be like warpfire throwers if changing at all. Slann with br nerfed a bit. Lowered points cost on terradons. If we get monstrous infanty it will probably be carnosaur based. Change points on special characters, units points changed etc. I highly doubt we will see toruk. Krox may change but doubt like you are saying.
Your time line is a bit off as well. Tau were released in April. High Elves are, according to rumors on warseer (I don't have the link ATM), releasing in May (18 days to pre-order, not that I'm counting or anyting....). Eldar should be releasing in Jun/July then Lizards in Jul/Aug. Despite the timing details, I'm excited for a Lizardmen update. I hope they do something to make the Carnasaur more available. I also hope we get another large monster and some monstrous cavalry. A Thunderlizard would be nice. Something like Carnasaur calvary could be cool as well.
Actually I am pretty sure that you are wrong about the Krox being hit. In the FAQ it said ignore the special rule Great Reach. That means Krox are NOT in base to base contact. However since it is a MI, it can make up to 3 supporting attacks. Since Krox only make 3 attacks anyway, they just attack normally. If another MI has 5 attacks, the model in the second rank can only make a maximum of 3 supporting attacks. Since it is not in base to base contact, it cannot be hit. The Krox will be in b2b contact when enough Skinks are killed. However this is not the same as "if all Skinks ranks behind them die". For example if I take 16 Skinks + 2 Krox in a 6 x 4 formation. My opponent will have to kill a total of 13 Skinks before they can attack my Krox. Also, when that happens, there is no way your Krox would be attacked on Toughness 2 LOL It almost feel like the guy you played against made this twisted rule up just to get rid of your Kroxigors. I cannot think of one instance where you "borrow" another model's toughness when being attacked in close combat. Such rule does not exist. As for reference, see Page 41, upper right corner of the box, it even has a nice diagram illustrating it. You can download the FAQ on GW website and on Page 1 near the bottom it says ignore the special rule of "Great Reach"
You mean cavalry right? I know thats probably true, but I still beg that GW will come up with something more creative than just re-using the carno... even though it WOULD fix the availability issue... indeed it would! rather unlikely though, seems like one of those "Storm of Magic" giant beasts. ..but then again bigger seems to be better these days.. ....aint that a *insert word of own preference* thank you good sir... next time I see him around, which I will, I will put this to his attention, and remind him that I won anyway.
I don't think lizards will get a monsterous cav, they already have enough lizards, what are they going to ride? Bigger lizards? not a good sales tactic. Lizards are due for a thundertusk base sized dinosaur-monster for sure! If it is a flyer, on the big thundertusk base, it would be a precedent in warhammer fantasy. It will be a rare choice for sure. Terradons need better rules but stay the same points. I'd expect the skink/krox mixed units to be a thing of the past. This is because Kroxigors will be better and cost more. They will be kept in competitive line with the rest of the monsterous infantry. Say around the same points as ironguts. I'm expecting a new krox kit. So we are sitting with a big monster and a new krox kit. This leaves room for maybe 2 more new kits of models. I'm expecting salanders and razordons to get a dual kit. This is a stretch though. For my final expectation, I see a chariot. Might be a cold one chariot, might be something else. I agree with the gent who said stegs will get merged... This makes sense because the new monster will replace the ancient steg in the rare department. Speaking of rare department, I'd expect chameleons to move to rare where they should be. My reasoning relies upon the fact that lizards have a really solid army base. They just need more flavor. Terradons getting better might help with redirector options and flavor. My most radical thought is that GW might add a support unit that gives a AoE buff like the engine of the gods. I doubt lizards will get their own lore but it would be cute. A lot of stretches here but I think they are pretty well thought out compared to a few other radical thoughts already present on this thread.
LEAKED PIC! https://encrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRcy03AB-zNGEDw4zId-iNWZwnarY7NbvHez4qmAEP9rs7L5z1h I think they should stay where they are. A "Special" infantry unit are usually just a variation of "core" infantry (thats what makes it special special!), so game-wise they are well placed. Do we need a chariot? and does it fit with the army? I wouldnt see it make much sense since the only handy-man construction seen in a lizardmen army is the howdah on the Stegadon (which is pretty much our chariot) The ned EoTG I agree on! I think and hope that we will see more "alien technology" , both in units and in the item list. Maybe weapon teams a la Skaven with a reversed function of buffing instead of hurting? I could see a Saurus block bringing something in the second rank to boost their abilities. "Pillar of *random old one* " gives stubborn in a X inch radius. "Quickening Engine" - units get +2I maybe this will be the function of the Relic Priests (all guesses and hopes here)
Yeah, the Stegs make more sense, fluff wise, than a wheeled chariot. Now if it had Old One technology that made it float and sport a Las Cannon, I might reconsider my opinion.
monstrous calvalry is not out of the realm of possibility look at chaos and Empire they both got them
Monstrous Cavalry would be gladly welcomed by me. After facing Mournfangs a few times, I'm ready to have a fast moving face smasher of my own to fight back with. The question is: what would Lizardmen MC look like?
I only started lizards about 2 months ago. All i want in the new ed is some artillery like rock lobbers or something.
same for me, the army dosnt need speed.. it just needs some fast muscle ..CoC just dosnt cut it for their points. ucn I could survive with carnosaur riders...but thats just CoC on stereoids with a bit of extra teeth in the mix. I hope GW comes up with something original....
Don't get me wrong, MC is on my wishlist too.. but do lizards really need it? I'm not so sure. There are larger holes to fill in the lizard army IMO. CoC will probably get a points drop, hopefully to where boar boy big uns are at.
This GW we are talking about. Like forrest gump said "Sometimes people do things that don't make any sense." Did empire really need chicken knights or the giant monstrous thing they have? Probably not. That being said based on what the previous books power creep and high elves rumors show, Slann probably be nerfed but more or less the same. Cold ones cheaper (so more people buy them). Carnosaurs cheaper for characters and heroes can take them ( so people buy carnosaurs). Stegs will be combined with weapon options, EoTG might be gone, or at least require a roll of some kind. Core choices points will fluctuate a bit. Terradons probably be cheaper or at least better. And yes carnosaur MC. And like orcs, empire, chaos, Tomb kings, and vampires and daemons. There will be a new monster on a large base. Maybe more flyers? Or I could be way off base but time will tell.
Soooooo pumped for this! Dig all the speculations shared so far. Definitely lots of room for Lizardmen to evolve in the new book... no pun intended. Rules: Cold One Cav def need some points shaving to be more effective. Could we get a weaker version as core somehow? Skinks riding something even? Models: Stegs are such a unique thing that only we get, I can't see GW doing anything too crazy to mess with that. More access to Carnosaurs is a must have. We have so many other gaps to fill, I can see the MCav idea, and maybe some way for Skink Priests to get closer to the action safely. Some "Jungle Tech" would be nice as well. It's GW though... so we'll just have to wait til August to find out!
