Mantic released rules for lizardmen in their game kings of war. Its good to see theres another game system I can try if I dont like 9th ed. Skinks are gecko warriors and saurus are land dragons. XD

Any similarity in the rules, or are they something completely different army altogether.

Is there a link to the list? I gather it is fan-made. My search Fu on the Mantic site failed to find anything useful.

I have played a few games of Kings of War. It is a much simpler game than Fantasy. No need to pull models off of a unit, you just tally up the totals. Magic doesn't have the same power and isn't game winning by itself.

That is very good news. It's interesting that GW can spread all this fear among the community and still expect people to stick around. I'm glad Mantic is stepping up.

So how good is Mantic's game? How does it compare with our current edition of warhammer?

Beats me man. I broke my google-fu just finding the sucker. It looks like the official Mantic materials...same fonts and format. I had never heard of "yumpu" before finding the document.

    The internetz be wyrde...

I only took a quick glance at that list but I'm pretty sure it isn't the one from Warseer. The reason I prefer to use that one is that it was written by Matt Gilbert who is on the Rules Committee for v2. Following the beta for that is making it fairly clear to me that the RC has a better idea and feel for the game than Alessio does.

There's only a few things I don't like about this list. First is that the inspiration structure for Saurians versus Geckos is completely separate. Second is that all the Geckos are not solid so you don't get hero or monster choices from them. Finally the lizards still don't understand how to dismount their bolt thrower or large blowpipes and use them on the ground. The result in v1 is that our Saurian regiments don't give us both a war machine and a hero they only give us a hero or a monster. For instance my list has 10 units, 5 saurian and 5 gecko, but was only able to take 5 monsters/heroes and I had to have both saurian and gecko heroes in order to give inspiring to both segments.

That being said the list is solid.

I'm hoping that once v2 is done the official lizardmen list will be better put together and feel less like 2 allied armies fighting together.

This cannot be the document the OP talk about, as it was uploaded two years ago and has received a whooping 64 views since, the majority I guess coming from this thread.

Mantic hasn't actually released anything official for Lizardmen yet. There's only fan lists. I suspect that after v2 is out we'll see those lists in the next 6-12 months. He's probably referencing the official statement that Pendrake linked to.

This could be interesting if GW does actually let Lizardmen go or 9th edition changes the game so much that it isn't what I want to get out of the hobby.

One I will say in GW's defense though, is that they are not the ones spreading the fear about what is going to happen - it's all the rumor mongers and speculators that are doing that. Officially GW has said nothing about what to expect from this point forward (which is arguably just as bad!). They hit the reset button on the setting and we are all sitting here hoping that our stuff still works.

Just as bad indeed! This won't be as smooth of a transition as any of the edition changes of the past. If it turns out that only half the rumours are true, the change is still extreme. Rather than allow the fear to spread, grow and contort, GW should be trying to actively ramp up excitement. I guess only time will reveal how this whole situation ends up playing out.

Well, I'm positive about a system that doesn't require me buying more models. Will definitely check it out when the official rules come!

I read the review of Kings of War and looked at the Lizard list.

For me the complexity of Warhammer is not an issue. Once you start gaming regularly (1-2 times a month is what I would consider regular), familiarity with the army and game rules becomes second nature. You work out your own little formulas for all the dice, including probability with cold blooded, swiftstride charges, etc.

I like the idea of the KoW game (and some competition to GW who will probably simplify their rules as a result), it just seems too simple. I think what KoW needs is the depth of storytelling that GW is so good at to build the passion for a race, it's characters and culture and a few more years of development. The customisation is so important to me. For example you can run a Cowboy with a ward, or with the crown of command and he has a COMPLETELY different function: the first is monster hunting, the second tarpits big regiments of troops with a 90% chance of holding on Ld8 but can't take on characters so well. That customisation is not available in a lot of tabletop games and is a good point of difference that Warhammer has.

Unfortunately I'm not GW's target market as I'm outside the ages of 12 to 16, that's why I think the competition from KoW will be good.
