hey guys, with the recent release of very cool looking monsters, do we probably get a release too? i know that lizardmen model is quite new (2008), but come on. the ogre got mastodon. we should at least get some BIG monster. what do you guys think?
Well.. you could go all-creative and design/build a thunderlizard.. or use a different dino-toy/model for a stegie or carnasour mount to diversify the monotny of same models.
We were just talking about this yesterday at my local. The Carno and the Steg are now the smallest of the large monster models. Either one placed next to a Sphinx, for example, looks relatively puny.
When was the last major wave of new lizardmen models? I'm not craving anything specific, but some updated sculpts would be nice after seeing all the releases for Daemons, Ogres and the like. Maybe everyone else is just jealous of the scaly dominance, so GW is appeasing them? lol
Lizardmen's most current army book is actually one of the more recent onces albiet 8th edtion hardcover books. The books release date was February 2009. The FAQs have updated much to 8th but still have some lingering questions on specific items/events. Usually, new models are released with a new army book. Personally, Im eagerly waiting for a new Brettonian, Wood Elf and Dwarves army books, which last printing was 6th edtion, 2004, 2005 and 2005 respectfully. The Ogre's are finally getting their's next up, which they were also last release 2005. The Empire and High Elves are the next oldest after this set, being 2007.
I don't think we will get a splash release monster, though GW does seem to be putting rules in WD again so its possible. I think given how recent pretty much the whole range for LM is, we won't get much for a few more years.
We did, however, just get, or are about to get, a new Oldblood model, and it's worth noting that we do not have a mini for an Oldblood on a Horned One. So it would be logical to imagine that we will get a Horned One miniature at some point as a special mount. In the meantime, I'm going to be sculpting one.
I wouldn't bet on it since a horned one is essentially just a cold one, except more vicious. It doesn't really need a whole new model. Having said that, we will probably get the odd small release over the next few years. I was more referring to not getting a large release of multiple kits for quite a while. I do expect to see kroxigors in boxes of 3 resin instead of the metal blisters soon, but thats hardly a big change.
I have to agree, our big dinosaurs don't look so big anymore, but i don't really mind, I would send my carnosaur or stegadon vs bigger models any day. Because I would hope that; A) my model is more original. B) I'm a ferocious lizard by story and well bigger things just don't scare, the cold blooded that much, I imagine it like Cratos fighting one of the big bosses in God of War, he shrugs it off, and then... WHAM, completely demolishes the other guy. Or something crazy like that.
More vicious? With a +1 initiate and movement it strikes me as being exactly the same in the viciousness dept, but faster. I also note it may have a bigger brain case (no stupidity tests), or maybe it's just trained better... How much of a difference is there between a Lizardman Cold One and a Dark Elf model? I'm trying to do some research for a project I'm working on. Obviously, it has a horn...maybe it's a male and all the other Cold Ones are female?
I used the word vicious based on what I remember of the little paragraph of description above the 'item' in the army book, have a look there. I could be remembering wrong, I haven't read it in a while, but I seem to recall the horned one is a cold one but more wild and harder to control. Using a Dark Elf cold one would be a perfect way to represent it and differentiate from the other cold ones in your army. In terms of rules, DE Cold One is exactly the same as LM Cold One. Also, I'd almost make the female the more aggressive one. It happens like that a lot in nature, but I guess you can choose whichever you prefer. If she's more agile and faster ,that suits the rules well compared to the lazy, big slower male. However, GW could have made the 'horned one' to be a subtle phallic thing, they like doing that for some reason. Size doesn't matter. At least in model terms. I'd back a carnosaur to beat most of the big monsters getting around now even though he will be dwarfed by them.
yeah bought the carnosaur today, quite smaller than i thought... it doesnt look like S7 to me when comepering with other new monsters. But when you look to rank and file it could be S7. but still I2 for a trex, fast and agile killing machine makes totaly no sence.
A “Lower" Horned One? From my experience my lower horn has made me make some really bad decisions in the past. I think the “Stupidity Rule” would still apply if that were the case.
Oh man, you're preaching to the converted, brother So upon reflection, I think making the Horned One a female is a better idea. Going to fiddle with my greenstuff over the weekend and see how this turns out...
i dunno i would love to see a big monster that has the options of an upgrade for something that can carry a slaan as an upgrade and alternative for TG or a bigger version of a steggy with skinks etc
If you think your steggies are small, have pity on mine since they are mostly the old metal models or scratch built on styrachosaurus models the same size as the old metals. Although my scratch built howdahs are far bigger then the originals (I made room for crew on 20mm bases) the only bigger model is the EotG built on a brontosaurus type dinosaur (but still a bit skinny compared to even the plastic steggie model).
