Thought I might give you guys a heads up of something I haven't read about so far on the interwebz. It's highly likely that we will be getting an update soon. Most likely a new book, but definately new models. I know this because I have tried twice to get a hold of a Slann and extra Salamanders from my local retailer. They told me that they had ordered them from GW but didn't get them and so they asked GW why they didn't want to send the goods. The answer was that they are "out of production", and won't be available anymore. This could mean that either a) my local store is lying to me (highly unlikely, since they want to make money), b) we are just getting some new models (Slann and Salamanders among them), c) we are up next, after Tomb Kings. I agree that it sounds a bit confusing when there are a few armies out there that are considered broken to such an extent that they are hardly playable (Wood elves for example), and maybe they should be considered before us (since our army is very much playable). It's also a bit odd that they take them out of print now, when the book would be release in september/october at the earliest (I need my sallies now!). You can still order them from GW's site as far as I can tell. But why would GW take them out of production otherwise? Anyone else who've come across this problem as well?
He might be refering to the forgeworld release of Lizardmen models this summer or the GW mystery release (new models?), butI seriously doubt we will be getting a new book so soon after our last book there should be another 6 or so armies that get their book first.
I would welcome new models ....... Forge World stuff is top notch, too bad their stuff isn't more convienent to get (shipping). I would appreciate a LM book in a hardbound edition - no need for a total revamp. There are other Armies that neeed a new book more then we do.... My 2 cents, Kaax Taat
I'm betting on Empire. GWs have to release something for commen armies, and armies that sell well, after random unpopular/ uncommon armybook release
Ogres are overdue as well. I know they are not a popular army, but I have a box full of them that I need to paint. Nothing would get me motivated faster than a new army book.
True. Case in point, Goblins came out Saturday. They really did not need a book (with the exception of a magic upgrade).
I had no idea FW was gonna put out new models. The models I tried to order were GW's models, the same one's from the website, so it was not any FW-models we were discussing. I agree with the oddness of us getting a new book already, there are more pressing needs considering a few other lists today. But it's still strange that GW claimed that the models are permanently out of production. Might just be new models and not a new book though.
looking over at Warseer this morning and it seems like they might be doing a rerelease of those removed models in plastic this summer (mostly monsters and hereos that where metal).
I just got an order of a slann in from my LGS this past Saturday. I highly doubt that we'll get new rules at this point, as lizardmen is a really new army, and I don't know how they would make a good looking plastic slann, but heck, I wouldn't say no to some new models even if I don't have any idea what actually needs revamping!
To offer a more nuanced idea of their business plan... I'm sure we've all noticed over the years that GW likes to make regular releases of new stuff. And because of that, they prioritise things with their schedule in mind, and not just by how badly it is needed. If a codex/army book only needs some minor work, they'll put that out in the meantime, before something that is in worse shape is released, often because they want to take their time and do a good job on it. What this means is that we might very well be getting our Army Book sooner than most would have expected, they usually release new models with them. Though even new models alone would be nice.
If any model needs a revamp it's CoC. I think it's ridiculous that our Cold Ones look like something Fred Flintstone would keep as a pet and the Dark Elves Cold One's look super pissed off and awesome. I dislike our Cold One's so much that I've actually converted some, using small model beer cans as the body and then gluing on the Cold One head, arms, tail, and leg. A "cold one" rider...har har i know. If we got new CoC model i'd be ecstatic.
I know I wouldn't mind some, but I don't hate the models so much that I'd dump the 16 I have in favour of new ones (unless I could find someone who would give me a decent price on them). And talking to the guys at the local GW store has softened my envy over the Dark Elf ones, as they're different species of Cold One. With those the Dark Elves ride being subterranian, while the Lizardmen's being jungle dwellers. And I do like how they're beefier looking too. Really, it's the claws that I hate most, and that the snouts don't go together with little or no seem.
i guess im the onlyone who likes COC i could agree that coc need some new claws like Skink Brave Itxy said. But the model is nice, well atleast for me
Some people might argue that the Dark Elves cold ones look "meaner" and more bad ass, yeh they might be, for an elf! I personally can't see a saurus warrior riding on a dark elfs cold one. They are just to skinny and to juge from thier size i doubt they cold carry the weight of a full grown sarus. (I know the size of the modeles can be changed to fit the rider, I just don't think the two could work together.) But the models we currently have could maybe use a reeboot. Make them look alot more savage and brutal, but keeping a straight line between ours and the dark elves. It would just look silly if they had identical mounts.
