With 8th edition out, my friend is thinking about starting to play Warhammer. He bought the rulebook and came over after reading it so we could test all that good stuff out. He's thinking about making a DoC army so we built him a 1000 pts list and proxied his units. I made a list of my own and we were ready to go. Here are the lists. We decided to play a fairly simple battle with the standard scenario and no terrain, just to test both lists and the new rules. Lizardmen - 1000 pts Scar Vet - BBoC, Light Armour, Glyph Necklace, Shield Skink Priest - Level 2 (Lone character) 23 Saurus with full command (Scar-Vet in there) 11 Skinks Skirmishers 6 SCoC 10 TG Daemons of Chaos - 1000 pts Herald of Khorne with 2 magic items (+1 S flaming attack sword and 3+ AS armour) Herald of Tzeentch - Lvl 2 Wiz 15 Bloodletters 9 Pink Horrors with Changeling 5 Flesh Hounds of Khorne 6 Flamers of Tzeentch
I won't go into details of the battle as I didn't take notes, but it ended in a minor victory for me, even though I completely failed and doing anything useful with my SCoC (flamers took them down in 2 turns, stupid me charging them). Now I know what to look out for in a DoC army and I'll be sure to beware of Flamers and Flesh Hounds (charged them with TGs since I thought they had 1 wound, not 2). MVP of the game: Saurus Block and TGs. Both these units held their own against the damn daemons. LVP of the game: Skink Priest for getting totally useless spells and SCoC for getting owned by Flamers. All in all, it was very fun though, we made many mistakes concerning the rules but it was our first go. I will tweak my own list in the upcoming days and grant him a rematch. I'll make sure we use terrains this time, to complicate things a little bit.
