    Hello Lustria!

this February I am going to a tourny at my local Games workshop. The way the battles will be working is 2v2 battles with each person getting 1000 points and all the regular allowences. i.e each person will have 3 heroes, 3 special, and one rare.

My partner in this escapade is an orc player.

Our thinking for this battle was that he would take many siege and range weapons to back up my mostly close combat army, and we will both have a small bit of magic. Do you think covering each other like this will work, or should we both work more independently.

The only opponents that we know of are a tag team of WoC and a very skilled empire player who believes and army without at least 2 cannons and a stank is a failed army. Other then that it could be anything.
The stank is usually a huge problem for me to deal with in 1000. Would a stegadon be a good counter?
I will write a list for this soonish and post it in the list section.

Any tips, tricks, advice? Most worried about the stank here.
    thanks :)

i think blowpipes can deal with a stank.... it might have a 1+ armor save but it will fail some of hte saves eventually and maybe a stegadon, but thats a bit risky becuase even if he charges the impact hits mgiht not be enough to kill teh stank and the stegadon will suffer impact hits aswell

Blowpipes on a stank? I really don't think that will be effective, considering they need 6's to wound.
10 skinks firing 20 shots at close range, would need 4+ if they hadn't moved. So 10 hit. (I don't think you can poison a stank, might be wrong though) Maybe if you are lucky, you roll 2 6's. Then you have to bypass the 1+ AS. I think the chances are pretty low.

I think your best bet is scar vets against those tanks. If you want him on a CO with the burning blade of chotec he gets -4 to armor with strength 5 attacks. Blade of might increases your strength too, so -3 with 6 strength. Or just give him the charm of the jaguar warrior and hit him with great weapon attacks, 4 strength 7 hits with -4 to armor. It's a little risky though, plus the charm is hard to get off if you can't drain dispell dice.

@denixrelic: it is in fact going to be in Burnaby, ha ha. small world

@Sebulba: yes, I now also think that a ScarVet would be the best antistank, after witnessing firsthand quite a few failed attempts from other devices.

Well, Me an My orc partner had a practice battle against the WoC and empire player. We won, but ti left me a little under confident in orcish ability. One shot from the WoC hellcannon sent half the orc army screaming in terror off the table edge. Luckily due to some poor maneuvering by the other team, and some unlucky misfire rolls we still claimed the victory. However, I don't think we can count again on people leaving their knights within charge range of angry Saurus. At this point I'm really not sure what the Orcs should be doing. Their close combat is slightly inferior, and their ranged siege failed rather spectacularly. I'm also pretty distrustful of their magic :/

Also, would a unit of three terradons, or a similarly priced unit of chamo skinks be a better choice for warmachine hunting?

One tactic I've seen is very plain and simple, ignore the Stank stay out of its way, destroy the rest of his army then concentrate on it at the end.

If you have Terradons use them to take out any warmachines

A steggie is a point sink especially in a small points game, go with a different unit, Skink Skirmishers (I love them) are definately a must. But if you have to go steggie EOTG is a must as the versatility of it is great. Its powers are magical but cannot be dispelled, just great :D

Salamanders are a good choice, a unit of three will chew up any unit that gets in their way wether by flame or fang. :meh:

One very very important point, you and your partner must, repeat must work togther. Get together to work out your army lists prior to the tournament (duh  ) then come up with some combos that will work well with both armies, if he is going Orc and Gobbo, get him to have lots of Night Goblins, even if he doesn't have any fanatics, your opponents won't know that and react accordingly.

Good Luck and most importantly have fun........

My lizards are mostly just painted in the GW Double blue style. No I don't go to the store games usually cause I live pretty far away. This is my first game actually in a store.
