Hey guys, not sure best place to put this really as i won't go into crazy details, But here goes. I need help against my main oponent (Warriors of Chaos) we played a small 1500 point's yesterday and it went decent but i lost overall (Note: It was a mix of warriors of chaos and beastmen 2v1 style)

Anyway, my friend will always and took a strong warrior heavy list in this small ish skirmish (we intend to play 2k - 2.5k next time)

He has 1 unit of 18 warriors with Halberds - a banner which gave frenzy (?) and a mark but i forgot what it was. He also took another unit of 12 with hand weapon and shield ( These also had a magic banner and some mark which i'm not 100% on - sorry)

This coupled with a level 2 wizard (with infernal puppet) and a hero with hand weapon and shield and 2 sqauds of 5 chaos hounds. My other friend added 20 Gors and 5 minotaurs to this army also.

Mine was quite a rushed list in most regards, a level 2 skink priest with +1 spell item - a scar veteran with dawnstone and poison weapon.

    20 x saurus
    20 x saurus
    10 x skinks (with blowpipes)
    3 x kroxigors
    3 x terradon
    8 x cold one cav
    1 x salamander

I have a few more units/models i can swap or add (an ancient stegadon, a slann, a carnosaur, 20 x temple guard and about 50 more skinks.

I just couldn't seem to break his chaos warriors - they hit to often and very hard aswell as not taking much damage. I'm at a loss as to how to deal with these with a better composed list personally. The squad with halberds killed a unit of saurus on the charge effectively and the other small sqaud ran away after my cold one charge, but that's about as good as it got.

Is there any items that are good to take? He plays solely this style, take a strong hero with a halberd unit and run across the map to try and kill stuff - they are his pride and joy.

    Any thoughts appreciated

At 1500 points, you could take a basic slann with some odds and ends. It would own his magic phase. You could also proxy some of those skinks as chameleons. Deploying those in his back field will throw off his game.

    Everything else looks good.

I did fly my terradons right to his rear slowing his charge, but those pesky warhounds also slowed me down and made my salamander run away.

I'm just at a loss in terms of magic lores/items and such that could help me combot those heavy warrior units with his champion and such. Chaos seem very strong.

Chaos is a fairly strong army with good magic and the best combat troops in the game. Both units of warriors are likely Tzeentch since this gives them a ward save. Right off the bat I would recommend dumping the CoC for an ancient steggie. The cav will do nothing but give up points vs warriors while steggie, if used properly, can reallly lay a beating on them. A combo charge of steggie on the flank and ranked infantry to the front should allow you to take on the hw/shield block since they are only S4 and won't get a parry save against steggie's stomps or attacks. While steggie is waiting for that, his giant blowpipes can poison the minotaurs along with more skink fire. For the halberd warriors, burn them with your sallies and use a flank change from some skinks to pull them out of position. Since they are frenzied, they must pursue and if you hit the flank with the skinks, enough skinks will survive combat to run away with the warriors in hot pursuit. This will grant another couple rounds of sally shooting and keep them away until you have dealt with the rest of the army. Once they are down to under 10 models, a combo steggie/saurus charge should finish them off.

Ah assuming Cold One cav are pretty much not worth the point cost then? Atm i only have a steggie with engine of the gods - i could always proxy it if needed on that context.

I like the ideas, though the war hounds tied me up long enough for him to get the charge off - next game he will have two units of 5 chaos knights as well, so no idea how that will fair (in replace of the beastmen units).

I like the idea of taking more skinks - should i push some skrox in there and take 3 x 10 man squad of blowpipes and a 30 man skrox unit? Or are they not worth it?

    Thanks again

Skrox are definately worth it. In my opinion, they are the only way to use Kroxigors. They count toward the core requirement (which helps). A unit of 30 skinks with 3 Kroxigor will work great to hold up a unit ofr a flank charge. You would not want to rely on it to break larger units though. The skinks are a meat shield for the Kroxigors. If you are able to take a slann with lore of life, you can buff those skinks to t6 (and krox to t8).

That will be a huge advantage.

Am I the only one who thinks 2v1 is reaaaally unfair? Mabye it's just me. It seems he's probably taking best aspects of both armies and making a super competitive army

I'll field my skrox next time then and probably skip the CoC :)

The 2v1 was generally just a one off due to our friend coming round to play unannounced in essence, so figured it more fun for a 2v1 and they both have been complaining that lizards/slann are very overpowered before we'd even played a game - that's why i didn't field one at the time.

Thanks for the input guys, i'm sure i'll fair better in the next game.

I'd definitely field a Slann in your next match against WoC id go for Lore of Metal it can thrash them especially if he's using a warrior heavy list.

I agree with Arli i actually just recently decided to try Skrox again after being unsuccessful with them alls i can say is WOW they really are awesome especially vs 5 Chaos Knights you should be steadfast as long as you have enough and can hit back really hard plus Skrox unit on a flank of even bigger units is nothing to snuff at. I like to keep them on the flank of a Saurus unit to give me a counter charge option for either unit that gets charged. On a furhter note with the Skrox unit i played my friend last night who is an amazing Bretonnia player his grail knights got an awesome long charge off on my Skrox unit he killed quite a bit but i hit back hard with my Krox killing i think 5 knights needless to say my unit held and i ended up wiping his Grail Knights out the following combat phase yes Skrox impress me!

I also dont find CoC worth it and having 8 is a pretty big point sink i think you can afford some better stuff with those points. A Steg would be great impact hits can really help especially on those smaller units like Chaos Knights!

Yes, Lore of Metal is absolutely devastating against WoC (unless it's a marauder army), however, I would advise against using it.

Simply put, i believe it's a crutch (a massively effective one!) but until you learn how to counter WoC without lore of metal, you'll always be leaning on it. Tournaments and fixed games you can't change your lores around (usually) and Lore of Metal is only effective vs. some armies, not even most.

Movement is a big factor against WoC, they have alot of punching power, and alot of staying power, but they're slower. Maneuver his army into sticky spots where he can't get all of his troops to yours, and charge him with multiple units.
