Today will be the first time I test the new rules. Being not a too experienced player, I'd like to hear your thoughts about the following list. I wil be facing Dark Elves and the only thing I know is that my opponent boasted about his bolt thrower, so I tried to protect my slann at least. Sorry if the magic item names are not always correct, I use the german army- and rulebook and translate the names as bast as I can. Anyway, here is Lord Achcauhtli and his spawned fellows: Slann w/ focused rumination, plate of tepoc (?), cupped hands, BSB: sun standard of chotec (?) Skink Priest w/ EotG, dispel scroll 15 Saurus w/ hw and standard 28 Skinks + 3 Krox w/ Standard and Champ (=Horde) 10 Skink Skirmishers 15 Temple Guards w/ St, Mus, Champ 3 Terradons 1748 pts So, any thoughts or suggestions? What do I have to fear from Dark Elves?
Salamanders are a must in the 8th edition.. especially against elves put the skink with curse charm of topec (i believe).. cuz with his ring of hotec your bound to IF.. with cupped hands he will take the miscast and with curse charm you can make him reroll that.. so better chance of a baaad miscast.. oh and once that cupped hands is gone you have nothing agsinst ring of hotec.. Soul of Stone would be nice EotG is still awesome but the stegadon arent nearly as good for several reasons... one of which i believe is that his bolt throwers will now hit the stegadon and crew and priest with one bolt.. not positive on that.. check on it.. idk if the 5+ ward bubble is worth 400+ pts Skrox unit possibly.. i havint heard much about them in 8th drop the skirmishers for chameleons... 5 chameleons rock now with the new scout and skirmish rules.. 5 or 6 chameleons in 8th are better than 12 skirmishers in 8th by farrrr.. thatll kill his bolt throwers Terradons will be good.. dont forget there new Vanguard rule also under Fast Cav
Thanks a lot, I only have one Salamander model, but that will have to do, then. I dropped the BSB in favor of said Salamander and switched the skirmishers with chameleons. I hope that won't get my slann in danger of being shot, but I hope the terradons and chameleons take care of enemy shooting. One Saurus and one Temple Guardian less gave me the points I needed for the curse charm of tepoc. So that's how it looks now (no points left for soul of stone though): Slann w/ focused rumination, plate of tepoc (?), cupped hands Skink Priest w/ EotG, dispel scroll, curse charm of Tepoc 14 Saurus w/ hw and standard 28 Skinks + 3 Krox w/ Standard, Musician and Champ (=Horde) 5 Chameleons Skinks 14 Temple Guards w/ St, Mus, Champ 3 Terradons 1 Salamander 1747 pts I will let you know how it went with the EotG and the Skrox horde
Just so everyone knows I have dibs on Lord Achcauhtli and his Spawned Fellows for my metal bands name . On to the list. I think getting rid of the BSB on the slann is going to be a mistake. He doesn't need a magic banner but the re-rolls from being around a BSB are invaluable. Unfortunately I don't see any way of getting it back in there unless you drop the EotG. So try the EotG out and if you find its just not worthwhile the first thing in the list is the BSB. like the krox horde but I think some work needs to go into the Saurus. 14 models just seems like too few to be effiecient 7x2 is a fairly large frontage and might be hard to move around and you get no benefit of ranking them either 6-6-2 or 5-5-4. Maybe drop two and keep them at 6x2? that would give you enough to put the BSB back on the slann (I think) so maybe worthwhile to do that. I like the TG, Terradons, Salamander and the chameleon skinks.
All right, I then call dips on your first album! I had the game yesterday and even if we didn't get to finish it, I didn't miss the BSB and was quite fond of the EotG. The Dark Elves had pretty bad luck in their shooting phase though, and I don't know if the Priest would've survived with better dice results from the bolt throwers... I field my saurus always in a 5-5-4 unit. They are often just in there for the points, because they don't seem to get to the enemy fast enough, so I could drop two and put the BSB back in (may become useful in later games) TG were too far away from the enemy when we stopped after the third round, so I can't say anything about them. The Terradons were all right and killed a few crossbow-elves, even better were the chameleons. But the best unit EVER is the Salamander, I definitely need to get more minis! I read about his awesomeness on this forum, but to see it on the field... He singehandedly fried and ate a unit of crossbow-cavalry (forgot their name) and burned a unit of corsairs so badly they fled the field. BEST. UNIT. EVER. All in all it seemed after three rounds that the lizards would have won, so thanks for the always good advice from you nice guys on this site!
You didn't miss the BSB at all? I guess Lizards are a little more reliable than most other armies but generally I find that against all but warriors, deamons and high elves we are outnumbered quite severely. Then again that might be because I don't field Skrox units so it gets expensive to pad out the numbers a bit. So, if you find that the Skrox are able to give you steadfast against most things then you may not need the BSB, as they really are you're only anvil. Would you keep us updated on how this army does against other opponents? I am curious to see how it would hold up against armies with a few stone throwers such as dwarves, gobbos, and brets.
