I was thinking about getting a DE hydra and using skinks for beastmasters,if I can get anyone to allow it as a rare choice(DOW style) for friendly play.I really like the model, and to me it seems much more appropraite for LM than for DE in the first place...I mean hey,THEIR USING OUR COLD ONES!! anyway, has anyone done this? Would it be too strong?? Feedback would be appreciated.Thanx.
Well the Hydra is seen as one of the quite overpowered DE things, so good luck finding someone who will allow it. I'm personally not a huge fan of the model, but each to his own I guess. There isn't really anything in the LM army you could count it as... I guess in some respects it is like a salamander, but it is a little bit too big for one.
Best of luck trying to get someone to play against this. I know that I wouldn't want to play against a LM list w/ a Hyrda.
I think that Hydras are actually products of the warping influence of chaos and mainly occupy the chaos drenched lands of Naggoroth. I dont think the Slaan would allow such a creature to dwell long in Lustria and so I really dont think it has any place in a Lizardmen army at all. But I also would not use any type of army that I could not use in a local tournament. I also dont know anyone in their right mind that would want to play against an army thats "borrowing" uber units from other armies. Hey anyone want to play my chaos warriors with a added steam tank? Didnt think so.
Thanks guys,I guess it was a dumb Idea.I just thought I'd throw it out there.I do wish I could get a Carnosaur w/o a rider. But hey..wish in one hand....
I just wanted to see if anyone had done it.I've never played against a hydra, but I read about it and even on paper it seems horrible.I guess DE (and elves in general) are so weedy....easily killed if hit I mean.they threw them a bone in the form of a big regenerating meany.I imagine it would push LM over the top since saurus are themselves quite tough. It does look like some spawn of chaos though.Although LM in general are not winning any beauty contests.I doubt the old frog would approve....plus I don't wanna come off as a cheeser.
I'm what has been termed a "Warhammer Racist", so obviously I am strongly opposed to this idea. I agree with Strewart (The model is disgusting (and not in a good way)), as well as the general consensus that it would be pretty well impossible to find someone who would actually play against you.
Man why all the hydra hate? Though I agree completely with everyone here that the hydra has absolutely no place in a lizardman army I do however think that the model itself is one of GW's finest. And now I'm going to come out and say something that is honestly true. I know it's provocative, daring even to say this... Not to mention that asrodrig brought up warhammer racism and, well, if a hydra summons racial hatred then saying what I have to say will make a warhammer KKK lynch mob out of you guys... There's no easy way to say it, especially after reading thread after thread of you guys saying the opposite of what I think to a fanatic degree but... ... ..I, well... I don't like the carnosaur model. There, I said it. Now I may as well say it properly... I don't just not like it... I really really hate it. I mean, c'mon, it's just so out of place on a warhammer table facing off against some empire knights or whatever. Dragons are dragons, and stegadons are big domesticated beasts with skinks on their back, but a T-rex, really now? Be gentle when you tear me apart, guys.
lol wont tear you apart man i think alot of people today forget that opinion is to be enjoyed by all. i do like the carnosaur model myself. but hey i also love dinosaurs to though. the only thing i wish about the carni is i wish it were bigger or forgeworld could come up with like a super awsome one lol. but then again the game is scaled down for life size right so you dont want to have somthing dispoprtioned to other creatures. im sorry i seem to have ranted about somthing totally my own... well regarding your hydra. you are free to do as you may. and i wish u best of luck finding willing players. i however think the hydra is more so on the dragony side. were as lizzys are most sertanly dino based. infact the carnosaur is an actuall dinosaur but i think the name is a bit diff in real life. plus relating your hydra to a lizardman figure for rule. which one would you use
Dumbledore's post struck a chord with me that I've been trying to indentify about the LM army for quite some time. I can definitely udnerstand your feelings and contrary to your prediction, I can definitely see where you are coming from. That won't stop me from thinking that it is one of the coolest models that I've seen for a monster, but I can definitely see how it looks a bit strange when going up against a bunch of skelletons, knights or what ever.
Well I find that stegadons and cold one riders and neatly lined units of saurus and skinks and rugged scouts and skirmishers and terradons make for an unusually colourful army for warhammer, but one that definitely fits in. But the carno... no, its just TOO big, and of a way different style to everything else. And not even a style I like. At all.. In any way!
I think it would be cool if Carnos were allowed to be fielded w/o riders as rare choices.I would give them the gorgers bloodscent restriction, forcing them to always end their movement closer to the enemy. What are the current tournament rules for DOW and "counts as" models? The reason I ask is b/c I was wondering if there was a good DOW fast cav unit that I could us raptor models to represent. This stuff may sound weird but I'm relatively new to warhammer and I love the game but I'm trying to determine what my creative boundaries are,Thanks.
DOW have stuff like fast cavalry and heavy cavalry, but hardly anyone uses DOW units in my local scene, anyone who started using mercenary units in other armies would have some raised eyebrows for sure.
I definitely agree that some models are hell to put together, people are saying the new Azhag whyvern is hell and has huuuge gaps, and when I got a Tau Kroot..... The big creature that a kroot rides and shoots from. Anyway, it had a huge gap. The carnosaur? I think it was ok with the right tools. You need to clean all mold lines and extra crap first. It definitely helps to wash with soap and water (cleans off lubricant which retards superglue and especially paint, should be done with all metals). Then a pin vice and some greenstuff and I didn't find the carni too bad at all.
I have no problem with the carnosaur model, I think it's supposed to look like a dinosaur version of a jaguar. I liked last edition's dark elf hydra better, it looked hungry and menacing. The new one just seems kinda wimpy, like it would flee from a mouse. I don't like the oldblood on cold one, the skink priest on foot, the saurus warriors' spindly waists, and the terradon with its mouth closed. I guess that's three cents, not two...
