Hi all, Some time within the next month I will be playing a team game. It’s Lizzies & O&G against Empire & O&G each player 2000pts. The trouble is, I’m overthinking my army way too much! Due to desperate alliances, the battle will be a low magic one. I am expecting: Warmachines (cannons, hellblasters, doom divers) Black Orcs Possible Arachnarok Hordes A possible Stank Possible Inner Circle Knights Possible Demigryphs My O&G team mate has: Lots of night goblins (but doesn’t like fanatics too much) Wyvern (I’m sure he’d like to use) Black orcs Lots of spider riders Trolls Should I be aiming for a monster mash list for target saturation? Maybe a list with lots of infantry? It will be difficult to get some synergy with Lizzies and O&G. I keep thinking there will be a unit that will be un-killable, and if I take a large unit what if a nuke spell destroys it? I’ve made several army lists, but they’re all missing something. It should be easier if I discuss our armies with my team mate, but what should I be aiming for? My current list is: -------------------- 2000pts Oldblood - CO, sword o striking, glittering scales, tal of preservation, OTS () Skink Priest - lvl 2, ancient steg w/ engine, cube of darkness () Skink Priest - dispel scroll () 30 Saurus Warriors - spears, full command () 12 jav Skirmishers () 12 jav Skirmishers () 11 jav Skirmishers () Solar Bastiladon () Solar Bastiladon () 2 sallies () 2 sallies () -------------------- Any help would be fantastic!
I am a Orc player myself! -And i hate bloody (chamo) skink skirmishers!!! (they are a real threat for my chaff: chariots, manglers, warmachines etc. and when my chaff is dead i dont have much to deal with them) -and i hate flyers (Most orc lists dont have the shooting to deal with them and they are actually a waste of warmachine shots) -And i hate lone scar vets/old bloods (much better than orc characters and if you cant deal with them with arty then you are in trouble....and shooting them with arty means you cant target the flyers or bastiladons). I also hate bastiladons coupled with a life Slann (flesh to stone). But without life a bastiladon is a pretty easy target for orcs. But your list does not have 1: a Slann (so no flesh to stone) 2: You dont have too many skinks (and no chamo skinks) 3: only 1 old blood 4: No flyers Now at 2000 it will be hard to fit in everything. but I would personally drop 2 sallies (so 2 units of 1) and get some chamo skinks. Furthermore i would probably give the Oldblood a Great Weapon instead of sword of striking, the extra strenght might come in handy when fighting the Arok etc. ps: we dont have an empire player around here, so this advice is mainly about the orc part.
Thanks for the input borkbork! I'll drop a unit of sallies and bring in a unit of chamos and another Oldblood & Scar Vet. You were right, in the previous list, there weren't many high strength attacks & redirecting units. This one seems more solid in comparison and I think it should be able to deal with what's coming. Here's the new list: 2000pts: Oldblood - CO, GW, Glittering Scales, Tal of Preservation, OTS; (1+ 4++) Oldblood - Piranha Blade, Armour of Fortune; (2+ 5++) Scar Vet - CO, GW, light armour; (2+) Skink Priest (Heavens) - lvl 2, Scroll 35 Saurus Warriors (7x5) spears, Champ, Standard bearer 12 jav Skirmishers 12 jav Skirmishers 12 jav Skirmishers 12 jav Skirmishers 6 Chamos 2 Sallies Ancient Steg - EOTG, Sharpened horns Would it be best to get rid of the Scar vet and add in more Skinks or even more Chamos? On a 6'x4' board 4000 points gets a bit squashed. Thanks again for any suggestions!
Ally combo the fact you can take new magic with orcs and goblins? maybe a light slann? giving black orcs ASF or we 10 could be interesting or simply having access to lore if beasts... orcs have choppas (+1S first round of combat) add wysans... str6 black orcs with additional hand weapons !!! ouch!!! outside the box
Also seeing your ally with a wyvern... savage beast on a black orc warboss. ouch!! and ASF trolls? WS 10 river trolls... 6's to hit in combat. . troll combos!! I collect both armies over 8k points in each message me if you have any questions matey
I like your list my only thought is your skink units don't hit the 13 mark so they still panic after 3 dead. You can put the priest in one to bump it, but as a general practice I run them at 10 or 13. Also if you shrink whatever you can't get to 13 to ten if it frees up enough points get you on foot OB a shield so he can have a 1+/5+ and snacks for your salamanders for sure maybe sneak a dragon helm on the scarvet for a 1+ and flaming ward. Last though is; are you running without a BSB? Best of luck.
There would be some awesome combos with Orcs and Lizardmen, but due to desperate alliances, I'm not allowed to cast augments onto forces of destruction. The more annoying thing is that the power and dispel dice must be split evenly between us - same for the enemy. So that was sort of disappointing when I realised I couldn't take a slann. I don't even think the EOTG ward bubble helps my ally. Speaking of magic, would 2 lvl 1 priests be better? - for double Iceshard Blizzard I am hoping for some great combat with my Saurus next to some Orcs I'll go units of 10 then seeing as most of the shooting 'should' come from Hellblasters, Cannons, Handgunners and Spider Riders. Also better manoeuvrability with 10. The newer list is: 2000 points OB (General) - CO, GW, Glittering Scales, Tal of Preservation, OTS; (1+ 4++) OB - Piranha Blade, Armour of Fortune, Charmed Shield; (1+ 5++) SV - CO, GW, BSB, Gambler's Armour; (1+ 6++) Skink Priest - Heavens, Lvl 2, Scroll 29 Saurus - Spears, Standard, Champ 10 javelin Skirmishers 10 javelin Skirmishers 10 javelin Skirmishers 10 javelin Skirmishers 10 javelin Skirmishers 6 Chamos 2 Sallies - 2 extra handlers Ancient Steg - EOTG, Sharpened Horns I feel like the two Oldbloods don't mix (I don't work too much with double OB). Both are for killing characters/monsters/stank but they also lack what the other has. I mean I would like my General to have Piranha blade with OTS, but then he can only get a 1+ 5++. I could do this, but would also be missing Glittering Scales, which is great for challenges - especially if up against an Orc general. Also am I being too cautious here by bringing Piranha Blade, great weapons & sharpened horns?
The battle is done and dusted! I have to say, desperate alliances are the most awkward battles, but still fun nonetheless. I did end up giving my General GW, Glittering scales, 1+ 4++ and other OB Piranha blade, 1+ 5++, OTS The second OB was a good idea - but just might have needed that 4++ like when Grimgor made an appearance Battle report coming... one day soon (WITH PICS!)
