Im thinking about making at list with Maz. However, i was unable to find anything referring to how he reacts to temple guard. Normally i would assume that he auto joins the squad, but due to the stagadon, i wasn't sure if he was even able to. Also, he has the wargear Sun Standard of Hexoatl. I wasn't able to find rules for it in that army book so im assuming its just a placeholder to prevent you from taking a battle standard. Is that correct? Thanks for any help.
He cannot join TG. I would not even take TG if he is in the list. Page 62 of the lizardmen rulebook bottom right column gives you the rules for the standard. It is the Army battle standard. Also of note, is the fact that due to the Stegadon, your General gets an 18 inch Inspiring presence (including re rolls).
I've played maz at 2500 once and took 10 TG that shadow'd him on the Zlaaq just incase he died and was left on his fat toady arse. Also they got to flank a few units that Maz and Zlaaq tied up. I would advise trying that tactic
I'm with Leokill, if you field Maz (then a small unit of Temple Guard would be great. Give him Lore of Life and Zlaaq should survive even some cannon fire (or light for pha's prot, which would also be awesome with Birona's Timewarp on both Maz and the Steg). And if Zlaaq takes the cannon ball to the mouth then those TG just soak up our chubby Lord and Master and give him a few more rounds of protection.
That is a great idea. I took him with lore of light against some HE. Zlaack did indeed get killed leaving him hanging in the combat (and he still lasted 3 rounds). That TG idea is a great one.
ok, so lets say your in combat with Steggy and Maz. Steggy dies and maz is in combat still. The TG can join the combat, but is Maz able to join the TG unit and jump back to the second rank in the middle of a combat?
I just finished playing a game where that came up (for about a split second). We discussed it and my opponent allowed it. Then his general with killing blow killed Maz. On another note the dice gods hated me today! In 4 turns of game play (out of 5 turns because Maz died in turn 4), I only got off 1 spell (Throne of Vines)! On turn one, a trebuchet killed my EOTG priest too! It was nasty.
Ouch man, bad luck. I fought some dwarfs recently and was able to get dwellers below off a couple times, but i was shut down due to the anti magic and horrible winds of magic rolls. I got double 2s at least twice. Thanks for the insight. Ill do some play testing and see how it works out.
On the plus side, I just finished a 2k game against Skaven. Lore of Light (Pha's protection) saved my TG unit from shooting ( Warp fire thrower, mortar, and warp fire cannon) for 3 out of 4 turns. It was a massacre. Salamanders killed every slave he had, then went to work on some clan rats. His doomwheel fled from a double charge from some skrox (and chameleons) and never really recovered (except to misfire). It was a thing of beauty! I guess my sacrafices this morning to the dice god were good.
Nice one! I play skaven aswell, havent lost a game with them yet lol I played wood elves at 2k with my lizzies yesterday, He killed 87 points, I killed all 1500 of his XD
I'm taking Mazzy to a 3K, no grand army rules, Special Characters allowed, no comp tourney next weekend. (21st/22nd) I'll let you know how he/we fared.
Re: jumping into middle of TG unit if steggie dies in combat. I don't think this is possible as the rules for joining a unit say that you can't join or leave one while in combat (I think, no access to the sacred plaques at this location!). Soonest he could join would be after combat finally ended, not sure if it could happen during reorg after combat or next movement phase. If it was next movement phase they might be prevented from declaring charges as the requirement to form a single unit might override their ability to decare charges seperately.
I think you'd be right there. But this tactic is primarily a defense against shooting / magic. Mazi could be picked up if zlaaq takes some cannon to the face! If Zlaaq dies in combat, the TG should ideally be on the flank of that combat, or at least fighting. I would need to double check if characters in combat can join a unit that is in the same combat. But I doubt it. It would stop the unit charging though I'm sure, bot got a BRB handy to cite you a page reference unfortunately
No, actually it's the Midwest Rampage, held in Bloomington, Illinois. A good friend of mine runs it, and it's always a good time. Here's the website if anyone's interested: http://midwest-rampage.jimemerick.com/ Years past, it's been one of the most heavily comped tourneys in the states. With 8th Ed, he's throwing the doors wide open this year. Should be interesting to see which armies thrive in this environment. (no restrictions/comp, including power dice) Funny thing: In the six years previous, I've literally been the only Liz player there. This year: 6 Liz armies signed up. Bandwagon, anyone?
Well good luck. I am trying very hard to come up with a very competitive Ard Boyz list for the second round. If you have any great ideas for me I am all open to ideas. Thanks
