Hello everyone. I have an idea that I think may look good for a model/theme but am unsure on a Lizardmen historical reference (if any). I only own a couple different Lizardmen army books and don't have any of the other Lustrian fluff. My question is: Was there ever a time in the Lizardmen's history that a skink (on foot) protected a slann in a battle? If yes, then please post reference if possible. If no.. then I guess I'll come up with a different theme. Thanks in advance! - Lord Cedric
I think in the fluff isnt the Slanns Skink Attendant (Hes the little blue guy in banner at the top of this page) that is really making attacks for the Slann whenever he is in combat. His one S4 attack is when the Skink attendant reaches over and pokes the enemy in the eye with a stick.
Man I wish my skink attendant did a S4 attack (it's S3). Even still, my skink attendant has killed some enemy models once or twice, the best being his slayage of a dwarf longbeard. Gogo mighty skink attendant.
Thank you both for your replies. Much appreciated. Other than the slanns attendent, are their any other skinks that protected a slann in combat in lizard history? Either bow, javelin, blowpipe etc? My idea is to stem off the chance that the slanns guard were slain and the next closest unit were skinks who help defend their slann until saurus arrived for protection. Just wanting to know if anyone has heard or read of anything remotely similar to this? Thanks in advance. - Lord Cedric
In the old days no-one would bother to rush to the slann's defence as he was one of the baddest combat monsters in the game. In general the fluff has TG defending slann's, other types of Lizardmen defend cities rather than the slann.
With how apocalyptic the battles were during the cataclysm or whatever it's called, the scenario you want to create is more than likely to have happened so feel free to just go for it. Lord Kroak and Mazdamundi were both down to the last straw when they had to sunder the earth to defeat chaos. Skinks are also the more intelligent, right under the slann themselves, so it's easy to imagine if a slann were in trouble they would be the first to mobilize for a counter assault.
I found something for you. If you open/get the lizardmen codex with the fat red frog on the cover, they talk about a magical little realm known as the Southlands. Flip to the back page and there are rules for making an army from Southlands, and not Lustria. Apparently, the southlands are really lacking on Saurus, and the skinks have had to take over for them, for everything. It's not relevant in the new codex, but since you're looking for fluff you can easily resurrect it and get added cool points for using old fluff.
Sweet! Thank you very much for the find, Brokbrok! I do have that book, incidently.. and how I missed that part, I do not know. But on page 72 for the Southlands it reads: ..."In addition to the loss of their masters' ancient guidance, the few spawning pools in existence spawn less and less frequently and many of the warrior lizards such as saurus do not arrise in any meaningful numbers. As a result, lizardmen society has begun to devolve." ....... "Without great numbers of Saurus to fight their battles, the Slann of the Southlands are forced to rely on Skinks to defend them and use the few Saurus which have spawned to train the Skinks in the ways of war that come so naturally to them. The small number of Saurus who were spawned were primarily those destined to become Temple Guard and this has been seen as a sign that the design of the Old Ones are unfolding as they had planned." Wow.. Great stuff there! Again, thank you very much! Looks like I may go with a Southland-themed army at some point. - Lord Cedric
