Good day friends, I am kinda bored with the strategy that uses saurus warriors as the game winning (at least mine). I wanna experiment with new tactics: 1. Magic heavy slann and tettoeko in let say 1500pts Slann can take any lore you want, while tetto attacks with comet, uranons or chain lightning. since they are using palanquins, they can be placed behind 2 units of saurus. just in case the slann takes life or light, we will have the advantage in close combat too. here, im thinking about giving the slann lore of fire for it's improved fireball spell OR lore of shadow to weaken that gets in our way and then tetto can strike them with comet/uranons/chain. 2. Shooting heavy skink chief with staff of lost sun and skinks with javelin/blowpipe. the chief can be the BSB too, bringing the armour piercing banner or flaming banner. if we encounter shooting heavy army, he can take the sun standard. if the skinks are bringing javelin, the slann can help improve their strengths (javelins use user's strength) or weaken opponents toughness. or in case blowpipes, the +1 to hit from some lores are okay as well. probably add steggies with double blowpipes or warspear. it will divert the attention to stegs and we will go shoot them or at least get closer. is these strategies feasible? which one will be more succesful? personally, i would choose magic heavy, but for fun, i'd go with shooting heavy. -m-
Oh. Em. Gee. This had never occurred to me, partly because I always fit them with blowpipes and totally forgot javelins are thrown at the user's strength, and partly because I never give much thought to skinks as offensive units anyway, using them mostly for harassing or diverting the enemy. I will definitely have to try and get some mileage out of this idea. The question is, what spells improve their strength? I can only think of two off the top of my head - Wyssan's Wildform gives +1 S if i remember correctly, so makes them S4 (not too great), however Okkam's Mindrazor would make them S6 (!!!). 20 S6 shots for 100 points is absolutely incredible. You could give a skink chief a javelin, with a potion of strength + Savage Beast on him he'll dish out a S10 shot! Shame it doesn't do multiple wounds. Shadow would be a great lore for shooty Lizardmen since you can decrease the T of enemy blocks too, allowing Salamanders to absolutely rip through them. Overall I think magic heavy is much easier to do as we have the best (and probably best value) caster in the game, pretty much. Shooting seems a lot more interesting though since you don't expect it so much from Lizardmen. An EotG, a regular Stegadon, 4+ salamanders, tons of javelin skinks, some terradons, and a skink chief with the staff of the lost sun. I'd like to try this out one day. Isn't there a spell which gives +1 to hit in shooting and close combat? Don't know what lore that is, possibly metal? I think the only way to get the most out of the skinks would be to run a dual Slann list (can be done in anything upwards of 2500 points) and use big skink units. One Slann takes metal and one takes shadow. Incredibly difficult to use and set up, but imagine the opponent's face when your skink unit fires 30 S6 shots hitting on 3+ !!
theres alot of versatility playing magic heavy, just no that if you role low for the magic phase there is a possiblity that you can bught the dust . but for kicks and giggles i had T6 S6 skinks in close combat lol Life and Shadow xP
I believe this list hasnt been played around quite often. not even a nibble. so by playing it, we could see the enemy kinda have no idea how to deal with it. it is an uncommon list. although still has to go through test play a lot. salamander is getting crazy in my experience. however, i would really really love to try out razordon. it looks fun to play with too. I havent read in the forum that displayed the disadvantages of using ones. perhaps anyone care to share their experience with razordon?
Razordon got nerfed in FAQ and 8th: -stand and shoot FAQ with worst possible interpretation of misfire (no shooting if either misfires, both snack if both misfire) -harder to stop charges with panic test as BSB in 8th allows re-rolls for all panic tests -sallie gets to count all partials as hits so got better for same points Monster & Handler better for both sallie and razordon but get all allowed sallies before considering razordons.
