Hi guys, I'm new to the forums and have a question:

Many of the common magic items, like sword of striking and sword of battle, are simply classified as "weapon". Do they still count as hand weapons (and therefore give +1 armor save when used with a shield in CC) because they require only one hand, or does the fact that they are not explicitly referred to as "hand weapons" in their descriptions prevent them from being used to parry in close combat?

This came up when I equipped my revered guardian with a sword of battle and wanted to know if he still got a 2+ armour save in CC.

Useing a Magic Handweapon means that you can't get the parry bonus.

    And welcome to the Forums.

Yeah they need to be specifically referred to as hand weapons or described as still able to get the parry bonus. There are a couple of weapons around that do that, I cann't remember any off the top of my head, but most magic weapons do not count as their mundane version unless they explicitely say so.
