8th Ed. Magic/Melee Heavy army Good or Bad choice

Hello i am new to da website,
so i want to have a heavy magic and close combat army. im not sure if im making a huge mistake and will i eat my words if i do this. please insert your answer below.

Well, that sounds pretty much like the normal Lizardmen strong points. Slann are the best casters you can get, and we have some solid melee troops.
 
Don't forget shooting. My lists typically have 3 strong phases.
 
ok i was planning to have maybe a few units of skinks for the front but not enough for them to be in the core part of my army. and i am getting a slann soon and i have some other things that are cool. also should i add monsters to my army like carnosaurs and such
 
so i was plannin g to only have a few sknks like maybe 2 units but not part of my core part of my army. also should i add monsters.
 
Don't forget movement: our slow Saurus are good at boring the opponent to death!
Only kidding, but we have strong choices for combat and magic.
Poisoned blowpipes make the shooting phase utterly delicious.
Either way, there are lots of options.
I just like skink nukes.
 
ok well i played a match against ogers tody with 10 skink skirmishers. and them end game. also i upgraded my guys to the max of options without any magic items and i was beaten pretty badly. should i go for less armor and weapon upgrades and go with magic items or no.

I don't know. Saruman believes it is only great power that can hold evil in check, but that is not what I have found. I've found it is the small everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keep the darkness at bay... small acts of kindness, and love. Why Bilbo Baggins? Post your list in the army list section. Also, be careful with the colors, they can be hard to ready which makes people not want to read your posts
