8th Ed. Magic Resistance???

    Unfathomable Presence gives the slann a "1+" ward against magic attacks......

    Does this mean it is still a 2+ save and not actually a 1+ requiring no roll?

    If it is a 2+ i was looking at the Obsidian Loadstone (Magic resistance 2) which would confer a 2+ ward for 45 pts.
    5 pts less than the discipline.

    Extra level of magic resistance pointless? i know if he is in a temple gaurd unit they get a 4+ ward with the discipline and a 5+ with the obsidian loadstone. eh..

    Tell me what you think.

    1's always fail, so a lone Slan gains no benefit from having both,
    If you have 2 slaan, one can take the shield and one the mr3

    Mr3 is awsome in a unit of TG

    i wasnt going to put the discipline and the obscidian loadstone on the same slann...

    but just determining if i could squeeze out 5 pts and have the temple gaurd with 5+ wards instead of 4+

    eh... slann is always going in the temple gaurd anways and the +1 to their ward is nice.

    i guess if you're running a lone slann i would put higher state of conciousness in place of unfathomable presence and give him the obsidian loadstone.

    Magic resistance isn't stackable, you always use the highest available

    i know. i wasnt suggesting stacking magic resistance at all in the post.

    well 2 slann's can have the same discipline, but the problem is, a discipline doesn't use the magic items allowance, so if you have the slot wich the loadstone uses empty, you could go for that, but if you want your TG to have a 4+ ward you get the discipline, MR passes on to unit so with the loadstone you get 5+ for TG and the same for slann

    and indeed, MR doesn't stack and 1 allways fails

    true. the talisman slot is taken up in the magic items....

    disciplines are nice additions, not taking up vital magic item slots.

    Ive heard that wizards cant take magic sheilds armor weapons etc. if they dont have the option on their weapons and armor. does this mean no magic armor for the slann!?! he does have a hand weapon. so magic weapons are still available? i dont see why you would put a magic weapon on the slann unless he is all by himself.

    thoughts on slann and magic item combos?

    NO mage can take armour unless otherwise specified in the army book such as Chaos wizards or special characters. This does not include scalely skin saves since it refers to the natural armour of the creature.

    Generally no one gives a slann a weapon even if it's all by it's lonesome. Give it items which will protect and/or increase it's casting potential. Just remember that you can not take more than one item per selection type.

    you could give him a weapon and lore of beasts for +3S +3A but other than a nasty surprise for your oponent... it won't do much.

    okie dokie. any magic item lists suggestion for the slann?

    most common are cupped hands of the old ones if you're not using lore of life, or bane head + feedback scroll with lore of life for magic defense. have the best wizard the enemy has be the target for the bane head and wait for him to roll 5-6 dices for a spell, and you probably need becalming cogitation since you can't dispell an IF and thus the scroll isn't that good, but in any other scenario where you can dispell, you can use teh scroll instead

    Nice, you can wait for him to get 5's and 6's and make him take 2 wounds for each?! o_O
