So I'm a big fan of unit champions using magic items. (In theory) Great little surprise for your enemy. (See high elves) I was excited to see that the Lizards have that very same thing... well almost. Only one unit can give its champ a magic "item". So that brings a question to mind. Is it worth spending the extra points? A normal Revered Guard (Temple guard champ) is 30pts total bare bones. Can it be justified to spend the extra pts to give it a bonus of some type? And if you do give it a magic "item" what is worth while? For example the BBoC is nice, that flaming -2 AS is nice but... its only at S4. Most things that burn are rolling T5 and now you Revered Guard is now 50pts. Thats the same pt cost as FC on a unit of COC or 4 saurus Warriors with spears. (Well 48pts total). Or put the Blood Statuette/ curse-charm of tepok and target his casters for fun. True, thats a nasty little surprise that most will roll their eyes as the say under their breath "lame lizards" But then again your Revered Guard is weighing in at 50-55pts. I'm really not sure what to think about it. Do you dump extra pts to shock your enemy or spend your pts else were. Whats your take?

    Your Friendly Thunder Lizard

the BBoC is allways on my scar vet so i can't give him that.
the bests items to give him (from my point of view) are either the sword of hornet, for some nasty 3 S4 attacks with ASF when the anvil unit gets charged or the blood statuete for the surprise you were talking about. i can't really see other items being worth it for him... maybe an enchanted shield for a challenge protection but that doesn't seem worth it and thats allready on my scar vet aswell

Another thing you can do is give him the sword of battle for an additional attack or perhaps sword of striking to aid in getting those two hit's through.

The argument in bold is the main thing. Are you prepared to pay ~50 points for a 1 Wound, T4, model? Who has an ok Armour save. Maybe so, but you take the edge of that argument by the part in italics.
You can buy a lot of stuff for those 50 points...

The blood Statuette, and curse-charm to a lesser degree, is the only thing I would even consider for my Revered Guard (or: our Strewart ;)). THe cost is siimply too high for such a vulnerable model.

Pretty much all of the weapon/armor options are better suited for a Scar-Veteran or dhe odd skink chief. The Revered Guardion simply has to work with his own gear :D.
