    Hi,

Just started assembling my bastiladon. Although i probably run it mostly as a solardon i d like to keep my options open so I want to magnetize the solar enging/ark.

However, because the crew is more or less integrated with the machine i find it less straight forward as i expected.
So i was curious how others tackled it?

    thx

Ps: this is actually the first time i am trying to magnetize a model.

I had planned to do this as well, but I encountered the same problem. My plan was to insert a magnet in the recess which hold the engine on the round stick with the skink crew hanging on it, and place a little iron strip (iron wire and a hammer will get you this) on the correct location. The only thing then remaining is the crew with the fire stick. You can insert a little magnet in the back plate of the bast, and a little iron under their feet.

However I found it more trouble that it's worth. You have to transport these loose skinks and all that and you have too drill the holes straight. You're left with these magnets which will show because the paint looks different, if it sticks at all. And since I would mostly use the solar engine anyway, I ended up not doing it.

    thx for your reply.

It is actually good to hear that I am not the only one strugling, as everybody seemed to considerer it a very straight forward thing. But judging form the lack of replies form people who did it I guess we are not the only ones.

Am currently thinking of drilling a hole in the back of the Don (in the top of his frontal armor plate) and add the magnet there. Then i will just glue the single Solardon crew member to the rear of the engine without attaching the crew member to the bastiladon. And i am not going to bother with the fire wielding crew of the Ark.

I think you could glue the crew of the arc to the arc already. I have seen people magnetizing the giant blowpipes on the ancient steg this way. They added a magnet to the blowpipe, and just glued the skink to it. The downside I think, is that it is only a small area to which you have to glue the arm of the skink on the solar engine, and this it's fragile.

If you would do this, and I do thinik it's possible, I would add a small pin inside the arm of the skink shooter. Risky, I know, but at least it won't fall off afterwards.
