I recently played against Ogre Kingdoms and realized that my army list was probably the best matchup he could hope for of any army anywhere.

He had a horde of iron guts, a smaller unit of ironguts, 4 mournfangs, 3 cats deployed all around, 6 dudes with cannons, a l4 wizard, a bsb and a level 2 wizard. He had this amazing item that made my slann miscast, as well as my skink priest.

    I had
Slann, life, becalming, loremaster, and throw an extra dice at each spell, bsb, cupped habds
    Skink priest with cube
Scar vet, cold one, burning blade, charmed shield, la, potion of speed
Scar vet, cold one, shield, light armor, venom of the firefly frog

    2x28 saurus, no champion

    20 TG, fc
    2x5 camo skinks

    2x1 salamanders
    1 ancient stegadon

Anyway, my list has been really good against nearly everything, but against ogres, the salamanders do worse, dwellers is worse, the stegadon is worse (no thunderstomp).

Now, I was thinking that I could change slann lores to shadow or light... Also, I could field another 5 camo for the redirection and poison is still good... I could also change the kit on my scar vets...

It is also possible i misplayed vs. ogres, i condensed myself and refused a flank, worrying that his speed would out do me. Now, i would try to spread out and have my salamanders cause panic tests, perhaps temple and saurus with camo and salamander on one side and the saurus, stegadon, salamander and camo on the other. My advantage being that I am cold blooded and in deep ranks.

If I could find a way to reliably deal withthe morfangs... I think I could win.

    Any thoughts?

the list is nearly identical to my "standard" list, but there are two key differences.

    1) your scar veterans are pretty much a point sink. the number of kills/points they do is way less than normal sauruses. id rather get more of those instead. i use a scar vet with crown of command, a 1+ save (on cold one) and luckstone. this guy can keep a unit of s¤ ogres busy a long time while you kill other stuff. give him charmed shield so that you can ignore one hit from a cannonball at least.

    2) you need more redirectors. i use skink skirmishers because o love their utility, but use cohorts or even jungle swarms. whatever floats your boat. they key is to stall the ogres and pounce on one unit and kill it, and then move to next. augment your fighting units when they need it so they dont die. sauruses do not do well against ogres if they are un buffed, but with T8 they do just fine :)

Salamnders arent too bad, but rather than trying to kill the biggest unit in the center, use them on the flanks. ogres are horrible at panic tests if they are outside the bubble, and it is totally possible to cause a kill on a unit of 6 ogres with one or two salamanders. they are not as good as usual, but you dont have to tailor the list to beat ogres.

All in all, control his movement and dont give him a fair fight and you will do fine.

Personaly I find Salamanders at their worst when shooting Ogres,
1] you are not going to hit many targets due to thir large bases
2] you need to kill an Ogre to cause a panic test (3 wounds)
3] Ogres usualy just charge the unit and fight them for a turn or two.

You are better of with some skinks or even razordons againt Ogres.
