Hello Lustria, this is my first post with the forum, so initially I will introduce myself. I'm Trojan, I'm a marine biologist, and I am building an 'Alternate model lizardmen army'. Basically, I want to build an army based on sea creatures, I chose the lizardmen for their aquatic ability and the fact that they're the only closely marine army. I currently have about 2-2500 points, but I'm looking to expand. They're currently randomly painted, and looking naff, so I'm also considering marine colour schemes. Any ideas? The first marine based unit I'm creating is a Terradon proxy, I'm going to have lizardmen riding on manta rays, the chaos screamer unit is very similar to the a manta ray, and so I'm going to be modifying 3 of those to use as terradons. The second thing I'm going to proxy is 'Kroxigors', for this I have mounted some small toy crabs on 40mm bases and will be constructing some form of aztec mask to make them suit the lore better. Other then this I haven't got many other ideas for units, I'd like to use a toy whale or something as a Stegadon as well as replacing my Razordon with a lobster. I'm currently finding it quite difficult to find the small plastic toys to fit this marine setting, do any members of the community know of any online or physical stockists of small toys, similar to those I've mentioned? I am however limited by my united kingdom location. If you guys could also post ideas and improvements, that would be rad! Thank you!
How about the "Gogglers" from Reaper ( http://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/fishman/latest/02977). It would get expensive to construct an army of these, but they fit your theme.
Or these Fishmen from kyte. http://trollforged.com/shelf_fantasy_Fishmen.html He should be geting some new types cast very soon.
These actually were a major part of my inspiration, hence the manta-ray riders. rather then investing in further models, I'd like to modify my current ones, with exceptions. Skinks with snorkels?
I would go for amphibian animals at least, ocean creatures like whales would just look silly on a battlefield. I used the Sea-Devil Keirioc-Kro as an alternate mount for an Ogre Hunter and it was a very nice model. It shouldn't be too hard to put a howdah on it and call it a Stegadon. Here's mine: http://www.ogrestronghold.com/forum/index.php?topic=20286.25 And here's the product: http://www.maelstromgames.co.uk/index.php?act=pro&pre=mae_blg_bnb_mon_017_000
Hmmm... actualy Skinks are allready anphibious, not sure if that means they can breath water like newts or just hold their breath a long time like alagators.
After searching around for further inspiration, perhaps a conversion of a Kroxigor into a shark based model. I'm thinking, remove the 3d scales, smooth it down, either replace the head with a childs toy or attempt to construct one out of green stuff. Give him a trident, job done. What do you think?
That sounds wicked cool. Reminds me of the Street Sharks toys/series. So awesomely bad. Also I first thought you meant a space marine based lizardmen army, and I was thinking, hmm that is... different. Anyway. The best example I've seen of an amphibian LM is the models that n810 was linking to. But of course I understand that you want to make your own! I would say go ahead with the shark theme. The saurus fits as sharks aswell I think. I think you could use their heads as an base. Skinks could maybe be some sort of mutated Moray eels with arms. Sounds like a big ambitous but most important, fun project. I wish you good luck and hope you post your dwellings in the paint forum!
I kid you not, I just spent the last half hour or so looking on ebay for street sharks. I'm glad people are thinking on the same tracks as I. The skink modifications may be a little awkward, I have two different models of skink, the kinda old very small ones with bows [oop I think] and the brand new spear wielding ones. I do hope to convert most of the spears into tridents. Any tips on creating the tridents? Would it be worth adding two prongs to the existing spear, or make a clay mould to put green stuff into and make whole new heads to put onto cut-off spear handles? I'm very ambitious, but I've done very little modelling work. Fortunately I do work in a games workshop stockists, so I may be able to get help from our many talented customers.
Not to sound like I'm working for Reaper (I don't), but they also offer a nice-looking wereshark that might work as a Kroxigor. From the picture it looks to be about 45mm tall which I think is close to Krox size. http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/wereshark/latest/02890 There are a couple of other shark/man models, but this is the most impressive IMO.
Woah, that's rad. The price is a little steep, but you only need a few Kroxigors. I've been thinking today on how to make a large crab, I'm going to use tyranid arms, probably from bits box, and a body of some kind to construct a crab. This may be a Carnosaur proxy, or I may sit a Slann on it.
Yeah, the whole 'Marine' thing has been used a couple of times, but you have an excuse. I was thinking: cut off crests and stick them on the skinks backs. Or you could GS it. That were-shark is epic, but expensive. Anyway, crab Slann is good. All the best, Moustache PS: Please post pictures.
As soon as I have things to post pictures of, I will. I'm still trying to source parts for my Krabxigor, hopefully a shop regular is bringing in some tyranid parts on Thursday. Yet to get painting, but at the moment constructing models is more important. Hopefully when the shops GW order goes through, and my screamers arrive I will start on their conversion.
for $7 http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1513061270/reaper-miniatures-bones-an-evolution-of-gaming-min
Actually I need to pay $100 + $7 (+ postage) Fortunately the guys I work for are buying most things on that page, so I should get a few bits. A friend of mine found an awesome tortois, the same size as a stegadon, so that should be cool. Today someone gave me some tyranid bits, they're going to be used as crab legs. So hopefully something will be posted soon! Whoops, someone left their account logged on at work, this is Troggs, Sorry inkpwn!
