Many years before tehequan served under his great master lord krok-xa, he served under a young and ambitious skink chief who had much potential, named xagor. recently there had been disturbances on the border of the jungle that look out on to endless miles of desert sand, xagor's scouting party was sent to find the source and if necessary eradicate it. they were faced with a with a mighty tomb price that wish to plunder their cities. ok, so i'm not so sure how the list went, but i think it was something like this. tomb kinkgs: heros: tomb price (general) liche priest core/special: 2 units of 11 archers 5 chariots with the prince and magic banner rare: bone giant (this thing is nasty, it absolutely crushed me! ) lizardmen: heros: skink chief with stegadon helm (general) skink priest (tehequan) with plaque of tepok and cloak of feathers(fly) core/special: 2 units of 12 skink skirmishers with javelins 4 units of 12 skink skirmishers with blowpipes 6 chameleon skinks rare: razordon hunting pack of 2 deployment/ terrain: terrain i'm doing in quadrants since there was a lot of it, from my point of view upper left - some sandstone pillars and an impassable rock to the very left of it, hanging off the table, forming a very narrow pass, and forest behind both. a steam is running along the very edge, as well lower left - the stream continues to the center of the quadrant emptying into a pool in with a broken bridge was over it. half a hill was also there lower right - the hill continued, and near the very center was a very large broken sandstone pillar upper right - also near the center was a sphinx thing facing the very center tomb kings deployment (left to right my view): the bone giant was deployed right with in charge range of the pass in ULQ with half the unit of chariots with the tomb prince being blocked from sight by the pillars, the liche priest close by. the two units of archers on either side of the sphinx. lizardmen deployment (left to right my view): behind the forest that was half way up was my chameleons, in the river farther down closer to the edge were the razordons. in the pool were two units of skinks with blowpipes, and on the broken bridge over the pool was my priest who never moved off it. on either side of the hill were the skinks with javelins and on the hill was the unit of blowpipes that contained the chief. finally on the right hand side was the last unit of skinks with blowpipes. Tehequan could tell that the scouting party anxiousness and fear towards their undead foe, and who wouldn't be. he'd try his best to protect them and enhance their abilities with hi magic, but had been given strict orders to follow to stay where he was, as he was too valuable of an asset to lose. tomb kings go first turn one: - it seem as though he was upset with his deployment, since all he really did in the movement phase was move forward slightly, sifting left and right, and reforming. i later found out this was all part of his master plan, he a very experienced player, along with other at first seemingly strange moves. he got some shooting off on me but only managed to kill one skink! it never seems fair being the first to go. as for magic he also rolled poorly and what he did manage to successfully cast i dispelled with one dice. - i just advanced my lines forward ,and out of range for shooting. this turn and the following for him really made my day in magic, it all began with me successfully casting comet of cassendora on 13 and him failing to dispel on an 11. how smart it was to put it right next to the liche priest! turn two: - the comet strikes on his second turn right after i summoned it, leaving a crater of only three inches, it still devastated the army. the did in the liche priest once and for all and wounded a chariot, and i learned afterwards that when a liche priest dies the army has to take a leadership test, which they aren't that great at and by however much they fail take that many casualties. this did come with a price though, his giant charged my razordons, they took the stand and shoot reaction where they roll two artillery dice per razordon for hits. i roll 28 hits and only managed to cause two wounds! he then crushed me in close combat with ability to roll for more hits if he is the charger until he fails one of those roll, which didn't happen unitl the third time. my unit of razordons was destroyed. he did little shooting and his magic was easily able to dispel his magic. though what had puzzled me was he moved his chariots backwards at a very odd angle (once again part of his master plan.) - i marched my razordons to the pass in hope of next turn firing at them, and thinking i could take on the bone giant if he charged me (being this my first time playing against my opponent with a bone giant i later found out this was a very bad idea!) my skink regiments continued to move up, all but one not in range which took out about three archers and my chameleons fired at the giant, but it passed all armor saves on 3+. turn three: - this turn was the absolute worst for me, he charge into a unit of javelins which was why the chariots were at that weird angle, destoyed them in close combat, then overran into the other javelin unit. shooting and magic did little as well for him - i moved my two units from the pond to the safest distance away from the bone giant just out of sight, and with my chameleon skinks sent a hail of poison darts it's way. apparently tomb kings are affected by poison i thought otherwise, but my opponent assured they were. i only inflicted one wound out of 13 poison hits (i guess that number only works for skaven!) my two javelin units weakend the archers in the middle by a few, but over on the right flank the unit with blowpipes they took out all but on skelaton archer, that later died at the end of my opponents next turn. nothing happend in magic. turn four: - his chariots destroyed the second unit of javelins and then overran into the space between the large sandstone pillar and the sphinx. his bone ginat was really doing nothing, just fumbling around, since he couldn't see my skinks. the skelaton unit that haden't started the turn with one was now down to one. - now in desperation i decided to charge the unit of chariots with my skinks in hope of holding them up long enough and then casting comet of cassendora. i did manage to cast the comet. sadly though the skinks were also destroyed. on the other side of the table my skinks were desperatly trying to get rid of the bone giant, but having no luck what so ever. turn five: - he quickly moves his chariots away from the comet and to the lower right corner of the table i hopes of then charging my unit of skinks with blowpipes that had my general in it. he did though, get a charge of on one of the skink units by the stream and forest. i failed my terror test and fled off the board, he thought the forettwould slow him down but it didn't, having hi run off the table. - i then decided to once again charge hi chariots with the general unit in hopes of setting off the comet once more. i did for the third time set off the comet of cassendore (fairly impressive for a skink priest), but not all went as planned. i had placed the comet right on the oppisite flank of which i charged where his tomb prince was, but he then challenged my general. i had a feeling this was i bad idea to accept, but what the heck why not make it interesting. inthe first turn of combat i wounded once, and him three time, but i ended a tie, so it continued. in the challenge, i did no wounds and he did one out of two. turn six: - the comet stikes killing two chariots. the bine giant then comes back on the board but still can't charge any thing. in combat in i lost by two cuasing no wounds, but past my test. sadly though, my general was not so lucky and had been slain. - i now had to at least secure the table quarter with only the bone giant in it to balence out the points lost for my general, so i cast portent of far on the skinks, and second sign of amul on the chameleons, unfortunately i only brought it down one wound. in combat it was the same only one wound as well, failed combat, but past the break test. end of game notes: - surprisingly it was only a minor victory for the tomb kings. - if i had not marched my razordons in turn two, i beliveve there might have been a better outcome for that table quater. - if i had refused the challege, the comet would have struck the tomb price on the edge and most likely killed him. - also, if i had foucsed more on the important units, instead of the archers which rarely hit, i would have been have most likely faired better. - finally, i just have to watch out for wierd move when playing against my opponenet next time! Tehequan's heart sank as he saw his general and friend be slain by the wretched courps. though few of the scouting partying remained, they had done thier duty, and driven away the undead, slowly crumbleing away due to the loss of their liche priest, slain by Tehequan's mighty deeds. Xagor had not died in vain. camo-skink
I'm sorry, but I can't help rooting for the Tomb Kings. They're my first army, and I just love the way their strategies function. Tomb Princes are hero-level but have three wounds, which is a huge edge in under 2000 pt games. And the only reason I don't have a bone giant is because I'm waiting for a 7th edition plastic one. Still, your priest's deeds were very epic. THREE COMETS!!!!!!!!!! Yeah! and sniping the liche priest so early! I have a feeling salamanders would have been better than razordons against TK though... And yes, they're definitely not immune to poison. That would just be too good for the game mechanics.
Hey, nice job dude! Really its harder for you to take on chariots and giants and things of that like with no hard hitting units. It was good though that you got to play against an experienced player as that way you will gain experience quicker as well! And next time, dont stand and shoot at the bone giant Just run and make him run around a couple turns.. Your army isnt hard hitting but it most definitely is fast
thanks for the advice, next time i just keep the giant occupied, i was hoping originally to use the razordon's strength 4 shots on the chariots, but the giant was in the way. i still immensely happy with how my skink priest did summoning 3 COMETS! though i must admit that it was easier the last two times since the liche priest was gone. i definitely got a lot from playing my opponent and his tomb kings which is good since i play him the most. camo-skink
