Hey there, i've been playing Warhammer for some times now, as a Dark Elf general, and i'm doing great with Dark Elves, but i think i want to expand and start a new army, being Lizardmen. I've not yet bought the Lizardmen book, so i can't start making my own army list, but i though i'd post here to get some pointers for what makes a good Lizardmen army. A few keywords to what i like and what fits my style, i like movability, ranged and magic alot. That is with a few units to withold the enemy with closecombat so i'm not completely ranged and magic. I also fancy a hard hitting hero whom the enemy will be scared of. If someone could try and piece together a 1000 pts list, that would be fairly easy to play as a new Lizard player. Also, i'm mostly playing against High Elves, Vampire Counts, Dwarves and Skaven.
Re: Might start a Lizardmen army most people won't simply make a list for you, but if you have a go yourself then you'd get some good feedback
Re: Might start a Lizardmen army Very true. I guess i'll need the army book. But from i've gathered about Lizardmen, i figure something like this, without knowing point costs: A loaded melee hero A Skink Priest with some heavy magic gear 1-2 blocks of 15-20 Saurus Warriors 1-2 packs of 10 of those Skink Skirmishers A Salamander pack? Maybe a few of those flying guys, not sure what their name is. If anyone can work something out of this i'd be very pleased. I'll buy an army book as soon as possible.
Re: Might start a Lizardmen army Welcome! If you check out the army list section of this forum I'm sure you can find some inspiration http://lustria-online.com/viewforum.php?f=8
Re: Might start a Lizardmen army nice for my army i got a skink with engine of the gods saurus=20 saurus=15 skink=12 coldones=5 slann templeguard=16 razarodon packe=2with 3 extra skink handlers
Re: Might start a Lizardmen army Hm, after looking around in different topics and forums, i believe i've come up with something that should be within 1000 points. Note that i do not own the army book yet, so i can't tell for sure. Although, i did find an army list creator that is somewhat accurate in my experience, so how do you like this list: Skink Priest, Level 2 Skink Priest, Level 2 10 Blowpipe Skink Skirmishers 10 Blowpipe Skink Skirmishers 15 Saurus Warrior, Spear, FC 15 Saurus Warrior, Spear, FC 3 Terradons 1 Salamandar Hunting Pack According to my army list creator this should be 925 points. That leaves 75 points for magic items on the priests, i figure 1 Dispel Scroll at 25 points, and then i'll look into the rest of the magic items when i get the book. Unless, of course anyone wants to suggest something. Note again, that i'm mostly playing against Vampire Counts, Skaven and Dwarves. C&C very appreciated.
Re: Might start a Lizardmen army Hey, was at the GW store today (only one in Denmark ><) and i bought the army book. So i came up with a list that should have correct point costs. Skink Priest, Level 2, Plaque of Tepok, Itxi Grubs: 140 Skink Priest, Level 2, Cloak of Feathers, Blood Statuette of Spite: 150 15 Saurus Warriors, Full Command, Spears: 210 12 Skink Skirmishers: 84 16 Skinks, Full Command, 2 Kroxigors: 212 4 Terradon Riders: 120 Razordon Hunting Pack, 1 extra handler: 80 996 Points total 54 Models, 7 units 6 Power Dice 4 Dispel Dice I'm going to play the army for the first time ever this Saturday against Vampire Counts and Skaven. I'm not too sure about Skaven tactics, but at least against Vampire Counts i know he's most probably taking a sorcerer as his general, and i'll fly the flying Skink Priest in with the Hunting Pack closeby and launch that wounding spell off, and if he doesn't die to that, help myself with the Hunting Pack and remaining magic. That should give me a good start agains those guys. C&C MUCH appreciated, especially with me being a new Lizardmen player.
Hey there and welcome, A few pointers about your list, Skink Priest, Level 2, Plaque of Tepok, Itxi Grubs: 140 Plaque and Grubs are both arcane, so you can only have 1 unfortunately, you could swap the grubs for a power stone if your after the offensive edge, or else a Dispel Scroll could be handy... Skink Priest, Level 2, Cloak of Feathers, Blood Statuette of Spite: 150 Again, unfortunately they're both Enchanted Items, which are 1 per hero, possibly consider a scroll here too... 15 Saurus Warriors, Full Command, Spears: 210 I don't personally find champions too helpful in Saurus units, for 12 points you get +1 attack, where you could get an entire saurus for the price 12 Skink Skirmishers: 84 Nothing wrong here, but if you needed points you could drop it to 10 16 Skinks, Full Command, 2 Kroxigors: 212 These guys are pretty hotly debated and I can't say I've had much experience with them, depending on what role they'll fill you could drop the command, Id at least drop the champ. as 1 extra skink attack isn't really worth investing the points plus the potential for an enemy hero to challenge it, and rack up a large amount of overkill... 4 Terradon Riders: 120 Terradons are awesome, you can run them as a unit of 3 but 4 gives you a better buffer against shooting, the extra rocks are good too... Razordon Hunting Pack, 1 extra handler: 80 You'll probably find 90% of people here rate Salamanders over Razordons, as they add an extra dimension to the army (anti armour and template attacks) where a Razordon is more massed shooting, where skinks can do a similar job Goodluck, hope this helped!
Skink Priest, Level 2, Plaque of Tepok, Dispel Scroll : 140 Skink Priest, Level 2, Cloak of Feathers, Itxi Grubs: 150 18 Saurus Warriors, Musician, Standard Bearer, Spears: 234 10 Skink Skirmishers: 70 16 Skinks, Musician, Standard Bearer, 2 Kroxigors: 204 4 Terradon Riders: 120 Salamander Hunting Pack, 1 extra handler: 80 This equals 998 points total. This seems ok to me, but of course i've not tried any of it before, but i think i'll give it a go tomorrow! EDIT: as for the kroxigar unit, i reckon i'll try it out, and if i don't like it, there is the alternative to drop the entire unit + 1 Terradon Riders and put in a new Saurus Warrior unit equal to the one i have.
Or you could split it, and only give them musicians. Go 11skinks+1krox each, though you might need to scrape a few points up from somewhere.
Ok so i played a game today, 1000 pts with this list, against a Skaven army. We both were playing our new armies for the first time, and i turned out as a massacare for......the skaven. I played terribly, but i have a good feel about the army though. One thing i learned is that a) Don't fly the Terradon Riders too far forward unless there is some scouts in a forest to bomb with some rocks. b) Don't ever let your Skink + Kroxigor unit be charged, put them right into the flank. c) Saurus Warriors with spears are awesome. 6x3 = 24 attacks! (although i do have one question in that regard, do they have 2x attack when they take spears too?) Either way, ditch the Kroxigor unit and get more Saurus Warriors. d) Skink Priest magic? I must have used it the wrong way. Although, The Potent of Far proved very useful. I believe one mistake i made was taking a Cloak of Feathers on the one guy, which i'm assuming is a common mistake among new Lizardmen players. I figure i'll grab one of those bound spells next time. And some magic-phase control such as redirecting miscasts etc. If anyone could come with some opinions on this, please do not hesitate to spam the thread. e) Skink Skirmishers, don't place them where the action is, march around the flank or through the forest or something. Same goes for the Salamander Hunting Pack. Comments and opinions is very much appreciated. But as i said, i have a good feel about playing this army, and i'm super excited about playing again this coming monday. Against Vampire Counts this time.
Been reading Lizardmen stuff all day, trying to improve my list to fit my style a bit more. So i came up with this: Skink Priest, Lvl 2, Engine of the Gods, Plaque of Tepok, War Drum of Xahutec - 435 18 Saurus Warriors, Spears, Musician, Standard Bearer - 234 10 Skink Skirmishers - 70 10 Skink Skirmishers - 70 4 Terradon Riders - 120 1 Salamander Hunting Pack, 1 extra handler - 80 I reckon this should be fun to try out.
Did you check your math on this? That army comes out to 1009 points... Looks like a good build however.
