For those who do not know, I came from VC (ya, you might be tired of hearing that). In VC, we take minimum core then off to bigger and better special/rare/hero/lords. So far I have been taking that approach to LM, however in a game today I noticed the lack of RnF troops. Sure there are Temple Guard, but they seem to be high cost to protect the Slann. Question is, do you guys fill the minimum core then go on to other things or do you seem to go way above the 25%? If so about how much?
Its certainly not as much of a case of grab 25% minimum then spend points elsewhere like it is with VC and HE. It somewhat depends on what style of army you want really. If you take a couple of decent sized blocks of saurus backed up by some skink skirmishers, chances are it will go over 25% and that will be perfectly fine because the core units are very much worth taking in a LM army. On the other hand, if you are looking for a dinosaur list then you might just scrape through with 25% and spend the points elsewhere. All skink, you will probably find that by the time you get to 25% you have plenty in the army.
I found myself spending the minimum 25% on core at 2000 points the main reasons were this: The Slann took up so many of my points. Another block would take me WAY over and I would have to cut a lot of toys with Skrox and Saurus blocks being so expensive. I take: 25 Saurus, FC, HW+Shields 3x 10 Skink Skirmishers, Blowpipes That takes me just over 500 but I would like another unit of Saurus in the army but would have to drop either a Stegadon or Tooled up Scar vet and strip some templeguard both options are a bit awkard.
