This Saturday I took part in a mini tournament, had 3 games, and to my surprise, I won my first turnament. The first battle was against a different lizardmen army, I was quite interesting, my opponent had a stubborn carnosaur, EotG which was just brutal, kroxygors, two blocks of saurus/spears, skinks camelions, salamanderss, what was interesting to see was a single razerdon. We played dawn attack. The battle came down to a massed first turn charges I received, my saurus got hit by the EotG, carniosaur and a saurus with BSB regiment, I managed to roll a few parry saves and was left with 9 saurus, thanks to the dwarf brewery I had behind my back I held. The other thing's that happened was my saurus, with stubborn old blood, got hit by the second spear saurus block, thanks to the old blood I managed to win combat, my opponent's unit was just barley out side of the bsb range so it was ran down. The krox unit fluffed their charge with rolls ona 1 and 2, so were forced to stumble towards my TG. My turn the old blood unit charged the flank of the EotG killing the priest, and the saurus killed the Ancient, while the remaining saurus warriors managed to finish off the carnosaur (which has received a few wounds from skink blowpipes on the first turn). Unfortunetly themselves were simultaneously killed by the evil old blood and the spear saurus. Mean while my TG declared a charge against the unit of salamanders, who fled, so I redirected in to the kroxes. Now the fleeing salamanders were charged by my chameleons, so the salamanders fled some more, all in all they went from the center of the table to the far right corner (pretty impressive). Now my salamanders charged some skinks, ate them, over ran, placing them selves just behinde my opponents fleeing salamanders in the far righr corner of the table, pretty convenient. Back to my TG, the kroxes took a few wounds fluffed their attacks, and were run down by the TG. In the magic faze I managed to roll pretty well, and with 12 dice, I regrew 5 saurus out of the bucherd earlier unit, and additionly gave them +4 T, to get them past the turn. From this point on not much happened, my TG turned around and charged the remaining unit of saurus in the rear, my lord challenged his lord and they battled to the end of the game. The interesting part of this battle was the amount of skirmishers that were on the table, just focusing on each other, it was a crazy mixture of movement, shooting, panic test's and rally's. In the end my army lost only one unit of saurus, and managed to wiped out all of my opponent's unit's, except the lone lord left on one wound. I scored 2750 points, loosing 400, A massacre. After the game we talked, and agreed that the tactical error my opponent made was not charging the EotG in to the unit with the oldblood. As it was out of my bsb range, and the extra impact hit's and ancient attacks would have changed the outcome of that matchup, while by sending the EotG where it went didn't really contruibute all that much. This was the mistake that cost him the game. Next game was against an Empire army, who in the previous game scored more point's then me, and took second place over all. He had a unit of Flagellants, huge unit of great swords with arclector, 2 units of Xbows, Stank, big unit of swordsmen, some militia, 3 mortars and 3 cannons and an engineer. Life 4th lev, and shadow 2nd lev. and a BSB. Blood and Glory. Again the table had a brewery in my opponent's deployment zone a hill, a building and fence in the center, a haunted mansion in my deployment zone, and I also had a forest. Fortunately for me the building in the center blocked my opponent's line of sight of the 5 war machines on the hill on my right, in fornt he had 10 xbows, next he had his sword's men, militia with 2 mages and bsb, Stank, brewery with xbows, mortar, great swords and closing his left flank were the flagellant's. All practically on the back line. I set up both of my saurus warriors in the center and TG to their right in the shade of a building. Then on each flank a unit of salamanders screened by skinks. The left over skinks were on the right in front of the war machines. I also placed my chameleons on the right to try to get to those gun's. I lost the roll for first turn, his warmachines concentrated fire on my skinks, it seemed a waist to me in the beginning but once those templates started to fall in I changed my mind. In the result my chameleons fled of the table, the other unit was reduced down to champion who fled towards my slan for support. both units of skinks were reduced to about 6, but held thanks to my supreme general. Fortunately the last of the war machines to fire decided to explode, panicking two of the 4 remaining crew's. I took the chance the the disabled machines gave me. In my turn I rushed every thing forward, only my saurus with the lord moved 6” and wheeled a bit make sure that the great swords and flagellants were in their front arc, as well as the stank. The salamanders on the left went wide. to keep out of the flagellants carge arc, who along with the great swords were slightly shifted facing the center of the table. Making sure they were able to reach their flank in the next turn. The skinks on the left move to the center of the table to assist in the war machine hunt. The remaining skinks moved in for the kill. While my sallies tryed some luck and spat do to long range, I rolled a 10 and two 8's for range, killing off ½ of the sword'smen. My opponent's turn flagellants and great swords were too far away, for my opponent to risk a charge, so they move in closer. The mortar next to the brewery decided to explode (no wonder all of thus intoxicating vaporous) he's xbows target my saurus killing a few, the Stank decided to park it a while longer, and shot my TG, thanks to regen, nothing happened, the war machines on the hill finished of one unit of skinks and chamelion's. My turn I charged his great swords with my old blood, leaving the saurus unit to face the flagellants. On the right flank the TG charged his swordsmen, hoping to get them out of the way, and to reach the militia with the BSB and magesinn the following turn, and to gain victory. The last unit of saurus moved forward to shield my TG form the Stank. On my right the salamanders charge a mortar, while the remaining skinks fire upon the remaining mortar (killing it) and xbow's who flee, the engineer decides his fate is sealed and runs off the table. On the left I move my salamanders on to the flagellants flank, in the shooting faze I roll exceptionally high and kill ½ of the flagellants but the wide end's of the templates land on the engaged great sword's killing 2/3 of the unit. in the comb, I decide that my old blood instead of trying to kill the enemy general, it will be easier to kill the remaining great swords and break opponent's general, since only a hand full great swords remained. To my horror I realized the since the Old blood charged diagnaly left and my TG charged diagnally right, the old blood is no longer in BSB range. And if I don't roll well on my attack's, I will have to roll a break test, true that my lord is stubborn, I had generally had good rolls when needed, but I wasn't willing to take such a chance, I decide to fight with the TG first. As expected the TG smoked the swordsmen, who ran. I took the chance to reform the TG in such a manner that the slan with in 12” of my old blood. My old blood came through and killed 2 great sword's, took no wound's in return , and with the charge bonus won combat. My opponent in a desperate attempt to reclaim the initiative, charges his militia in to my TG and increasing his T by 4, along with the Stank iin to the TG flank, killing many TG. I managed to wound his mages and kill a few members of his militia, TG hold. His flagellants try to reach my saurus but fall short. Shooting was insignificant, in cc I kill another war machine. The Old blood continues on killing the Great swords. My turn, I charge my saurus in to the great sword's to helping out the old blood, leaving the few flagellates to my sallies, who in return evaporate the unit in the shooting faze. Since the sallies on the right have finished with the war machines they charge the rear of the militia. I have a pour magic faze, I cast nothing, since I had 3 PD and my opponent had 5 DD. TG combat is going bad. with no regeneration them, the Stank did his part. But I managed to kill his shadow mage, and would the life mage, the TG held. Opponent's turn. In the TG combat I killed the second mage, but he won combat, and with the remaining few TG I held. My old blood killed the last 2 great sword's. Forcing the arclector to flee, and run him down. Break point reached, my victory and another massacre. Game 3 against the most experienced gamer of the tournament, and his ogre's. Meeting engagement. He has 2x I believe gorgons (the ones that ambush), a big unit of gnoblars, a lone oger (unit) don't remember what it was, 7 irongut's with slaughter master and tyrant, 8 bull's with BSB, 2x2 ledbleechers and a rinox. Again I loose the roll for setup and first turn. The bsb's regiment was in reserves as well as one of the leadbleechers. Deployment. Going form right to left he had. Rinox, irongut's, huge impossible terrain, then leadblechers, lone oger and gnoblars. I set up form left about 15” form the center, saurus TG screened by skinks saurus+old blood, behind the impassible terrain, 2x sallies then in fornt of the gnoblars 2x skink's. The chameleons in the rear of his army. He charges my skink's with the irongut's I flee, failed charge. The rinox moves towards my far most right saurus. His reinforcement's arrive, the bulls move toword's the same regiment that this rinox is targetting, one of his ledbleechers unit makes short work of my camelions, but the other unit of ledblechers targeting the other camelions only kill 2, thanks to bad roll and a misfire. The gnoblars turn move towards the right flank behind the impassable terrain, sneeke little bastard's. In the magic faze the irongut's unit is buffed by 3-4 spells, regen, +1T, +1S, and something else. My turn, the sudden appearance of an huge oger unit on my right flank and a rinox rider makes me feel uncomfortable. The uber buffed irongut units doesn't help either. I decide to try a long charge with my TG against his rinox, in an attempt to save my saurus form multiple charges from the bruiser+bsb unit and the rinox, but I fall short. Thing's are looking desperate at this point. In a desperate attempt to save my TG from a flank charge by the irongut's I move my old blood out of his saurus unit to block the TG flank. Leaving the saurus for a future flank charge. In the magic faze I give my old blood +4 T, to increase his chances. And I dispel most of his buff's. The shooting faze the sallies are great and nearly kill all of the goblars, the remaining few decide to make a run for it. I wound the lone oger one of the led bleachers, on the right I kill both led bleachers. Opponents turn. His rinox and bruiser +bsb unit both reach my saurus. I decided not to flee because I feared that the unit's would redirect in to my TG, who didn't have regen on them. And a good thing I didn't since the rinox rolled a dubel 6 for charge move. The irongut's charge my my old blood, who challenges the tyrant. I lose the combat but take only a single wound. Since he's stubborn he hold's. The engaged saurus unit fight's for their life, got to love those parry saves, I think passed 4 times, but I break -5, double 1 on the break test keeps me in the fight. A gorgon enters the battle field behind my TG. My turn. I must have have brain overload, because I skipped the charge faze, and started moving my skink's. So neither the old blood nor the saurus received any help. I managed to dispel all of the ogre buff's. And healed my old blood, regrew some of my saurus. But the +4 T on old blood was stopped. In the shooting faze managed killed the lone oger, gnoblars and did a wnound on the remaining lead bleacher. In cc, my old blood failed to receive any damage, but failed to harm the oger tyrant. The saurus backed up a additional rank, stuck around for more punishment form the rinox and briusers. Opponent's go. A gorger charged my unengaged saurus unit in the rear. I won the combat but failed to wound the blasted thing. I combat reformed the unit to face it. The tyrant's unit got buffed up, as I failed all my dispel attempt's. The tyrant felt the rise of power and crushed my old blood, wounding him 4 times, I only managed to save one. Seeing the saurus leader fall the remaining saurus warriors took it upon themselves to pay the ogers back, and managed to wound the rinox kill 2 ogers and brake the bsb and his unit, thou the rinox failed to flee, the bsb was gone. A second gorger entered behind the TG. My turn, woken up by the defeat of the old blood, the lizardment were out for vengeance, a skink unit chases the fleeing bruisers of the table. The TG charge the rinox, My slan casts dwellers on the irongut's killing the slaughter master, then dispelling all the oger buff's, and then preceded in braking and running down the rinox, unfortunately not before it managed to killed the last two remaining saurus out of the initially charged unit. All 6 salamanders concentrate fire on the irongut's killing 4. The furious Tryrant takes the remaining Iron gut's and with a vengeance charges the rear of the TG, along with the earlier arrived gorger who charges their flank. No good did it do them, as the TG, killed the gorger out right, then put a few wounds on the iron guts. Then they runn the Tyrant in his attempt to escape the furry of the TG. With the loss of the entire army, I again loost the same unit of saurus, skinks and chameleons, I came out with yet another massacre.
