I had a Troglodon charged by a Hell Cannon. Got a very lucky stand and shoot and took it down to it's last wound. My Troglodon was about to single-handedly slay a Hellcannon, the same turn he was gong to provide a predatory fighter boost to around 60 fighting Saurus Warriors/Temple Guard fighting Chaos nearby. Then he got hit by a Purple Sun and died. Even had a ward save from Scroll of Shielding (house rule that Dwellers and Sun get ward saves)
I was playing a 1500 point game a few weeks ago against Bretonnia, and I managed to charge his main bus of knights with my super-beefy Oldblood on CO. Since was able to effectively hold his unit in place, I cast the comet with Tetto'eko, placing its center behind the knights, 8 inches from my Oldblood. The comet comes 3 magic phases later, and by this time I've had to move some of my units closer to the unit of knights to avoid other knight charges. The I roll the max radius for the comet, and every unit takes 9 S8 hits--a unit of ripperdactyls, a skrox unit, tetto'eko and skinks, and my Oldblood. The comet devastates my troops, killing everything except Tetto'eko and my Oldblood. The Bret player loses a small group of knights and one knight from his main bus, turning what was a winnable game for me into a crushing defeat. That was my first time casting the comet, and we basically had everyone at the game store standing around and watching when it hit, so it was actually pretty hilarious, but yeah, I definitely regretted my initial marker placement.
Oh yeah, I had lost one of my Slann the turn before to a vortex so this was my chance to turn defeat into a draw (this was a 4600 point game so I had two Slann). The dice gods really hated me. After that game, the dice gods wreaked vengeance for our map campaign. A random event landed on the corner of the map we were fighting over and obliterated all his victorious troops. Essentially we were fighting for a chunk of territory unknowingly housing a volcano about to erupt. Even if I won I would have lost.
The sad part of this is that a Trog killing a hellcannon would be epic. On the other hand, another monster getting vaporized by purple sun is hardly notable. -Matt
