Around Halloween there is going to be a monster themed tournament in a nearby city. The rules are such that we are allowed to bring any 2000 point army with an extra 500 points of monsters chosen from Storm of Magic or the Monstrous Arcanum. Armies get extra points for having lots of monsters and for being fluffy. As it's a monster themed event, I figured this would be the best time for me to bust out both of my Carnosaurs and Stegadons as well as a life Slann to keep the beasties running forward. I am allowed to take any mount option as a beast also, so riderless Terradons are available as well.

Limitations are such that the Dread Saurian and Zoat are banned from play, as well as some (but not all) horrendously overpowered monsters... :shifty: I'll post a list of approved monsters if anyone wants to see it. It's a little long though.

I can easily take both Stegs in my 2000pt list. Both of the Carnosaurs fall just short of 500 points. That would allow me to take a couple riderless Terradons to act as great eagles or even a handful of riderless Cold Ones to run around as mini-carnosaurs, hopefully counteracting any wolves or spiders. The plan would be to point both of the Carnosaurs at whatever monster(s) my opponent brings, hopefully using their Ultimate Predator rule to take stuff down quickly. Stegadons can theoretically wound or kill a large beast on the charge, so it's likely that I would have them work in tandem with the Carnosaurs.

What do you guys think I should take for monsters?

I'd take Cold Ones over Terradon riders that are are REALLY eagles. That way you don't have to make substitutions and can keep your theme more solid.

My one actually played SOM game had a bunch of Cold Ones. Just be sure to keep the Cold Ones close to your Slann or their Ld 3 will really hurt them.

Yah, the Frenzy of Cold Ones is their strength. They are pretty much fast saurus with poor leadership.

I just ran across the Terradon Scroll of Binding ebook from GW. Terradons without riders are pretty nerfed. As individual troops, they are considered War Beasts and only have 1 measly wound. Good-bye to stomps. And their unit size is 3-15, so that kind of stinks. Oh, and they don't carry rocks as bound monsters. Even more lamesauce. But they are less than 1/3 the price of Terradon Riders so that's good. I hope that the troop-type change doesn't carry over into our new book.

Carno's, 4 Cold Ones, and 4 Terradons comes in right at 500 points. I'm going to test play with them all and see how they do.
