hi all, i have a question on armour saves for mounted characters... a scar vet has natural armour save of 5+, +1 for light armour, +1 for shield etc optional kit. If he is mounted you get a +2 to your armour save due to the cold one special rule of scaly skin instead of the normal +1 from a horse. My question is what armour save would you get for a scar vet mounted on a carnosaur, the only reference to armour save is the carnosaurs 4+ scaly skin rule, how do you work out whether hits go against the carno or the scar vet and what bonus does the scar vet get from being mounted on a carno, +1 for being mounted, +2 for being mounted on a monster with scaly skin or +3 for the carnosaurs scaly skin 4+ rule?
But it's still a 2+ dice roll to save, 1 being a natural fail. What it does mean though is you have another point of armour save that can be degraded, for "free". SO -1 to armour save still means you have a 2+ save!
Agreed. The rule for the Cold One mount is called Thick Skinned, not Scaly Skin. These are totally different rules. Carnosaurs get the 4+ Scaly Skin rule because they can be attacked separately and therefore need their own armor save. Cold Ones cannot be attacked individually. Individual Cold Ones only come from the Scroll of Binding. In that case you can attack them and they do get a Scaly Skin save, but they are now monsters and not mounts. Yay for rules!
Thanks for the clarification guys. looks like i'll stick to slann and SV on CO for now anyway. Sounds like it may be carnosaurs ftw in the new book though...
You bring up an interesting question and maybe I am doing this wrong. So a SV all decked out technically has a 1+ save (the lowest it can go) however it always automatically fails on a 1. This is important because if something attacks with Str 4, the save is now a "true" 2+ correct?
