8th Ed. My 1000 point fight against HE

    Ill be matching up against a HE army pretty soon, wer both fairly new to the game, like 15 year hiatus :D ..
    so i wanna win, and win badly :D

    I know he only has a handful of models and he doesnt like proxying, and he just got eagles so his army list will look something like this -- a group of spearmen, group of archers, lvl 1 mage, 2 eagles, 1-2 bolt throwers, a group of those high str guys, maybe a few models of cavalry.. maybe a melee hero as well

    so my strat is saurus scar vet with steg helmet, light armour, great weapon and try to get impact hits on character (as u cant lookousir them anymore), fend of his eagles, flank or go for the achers)... am scared of bolt throwers though.

    lvl 1 skink with heavens, hoping for a good spell roll : D ...

    bastiladon just all in versus the high str guys before they get into combat, as they are my main concern since they tear up anything LZ has to offer in melee. there should be enough power dice aplenty to get this fellow working. also idea is to tarpit the spearmen with this guy.

    22 skinks + 3 krox. since they do fairly ok vs those high str High Elves.. they dont win, but theyr better than sauruses.

    20 temple guards with champ and a standard to combat cavalry, i think theyd be pretty 50-50 against them.. with str 5 they should inflict some wounds in...

    ill prob just ignore the bolt throwers and hope they dont kill me

    any thoughts ? :D

    i dont know i feel a bit weaponless against the HE special lot in these low point games.

    Well 1000 points is not much when you play lizardmen.. So would be a though job! A group of saurus warriors could be good, combine with lv 1 skink priest, wyssans wildform and you have str 5 toughness 5 guys! Elves are almost always toughness 3 so you easily wound them! With Wyssans Wildform on 2+, without on 3+ so pretty easy.. A bastiladon is not usefull against high elves, Initiative 1 or 2, nevermind they have ASF.. So try a group of 30 saurus warriors as your anvil unit, i don't know what the strength, WS and attacks are of the high strength guys but when you just fight a group of about 50 spearmen he will kill about 5 saurus a turn, you will be able to kill about 11 guys each round when you aren't buffed.. So saurussus are a good viable choice i think..

    Put 2 skink priests, lv 1 in your army one with heavens one with beasts and both take the signature spell, told you already how to use your beast priest and with iceshard blizzard you debuff his high strength guys.. -1 to hit on his unit so he won't get to much hits..

    Shouldn't take a unit of skrox, better when you take 2x10 skinks to take out those eagles.

    I should make a scar-veteran general and put him in you saurus unit. Maybe a nice set-up, glittering scales, GW, Ironcurse Icon. Combine the glittering scales with a charge on a unit with iceshard blizzard and challenge, your enemy will hit you on 6's..

    Templeguard are nice to use for a combat unit, you could maybe place your scar vet also in this unit!

    So an example of a list will be:

    Heroes:

    Scar-veteran w/ glittering scales, GW, ironcurse icon

    Skink priest w/ lore of beasts

    Skink priest w/ lore of heavens


    Core:

    30 Saurus Warriors w/ FC

    10 Skinks

    10 Skinks


    Special:

    19 Temple Guard w/ FC

    I don't think Temple Guard are very good without a Slann, especially at 1000 Points. Saurus are cheaper and should be a bit more survivable vs HE Combat units. Also ever since Krox can be targeted in CC White Lions aren't a good matchup anymore (basically nothing is, but that's another story). If your opponent is smart he targets the Kroxis before they can strike and you will lose at least one.

    The nastiest list I can come up with at 1000 Points looks like this:

    Heroes
    Sarus Scar-Veteran
    Cold One, Battle standard
    Dawnstone, Light Armour, Shield

    Skink Priest
    Ruby Ring of Ruin

    Core
    21x Saurus Warriors
    Champion, Musician, Standard Bearer

    10x Skink Skirmisher
    Javelin and Shield

    12x Skink Skirmisher
    Javelin and Shield

    Special
    Bastilidon
    Solar Engine

    3x Terradon Rider

    Rare
    1xSalamander Hunting Packs

    The Scarvet can bog down his Combatblocks/Cavalry forever. The Skink Priest can laser around with the Ring and cast Wildform when it comes down to Close Combat. The Saurus stay back and wipe out what's left of his main Combatblock. The smaller Skirmisher unit bunkers your mage, the bigger can take out the Eagles. Bastiladon stays back, uses his laser (insert airquotes here) to weaken his Combatblock and countercharge. The Teradons can vanguard, drop rocks on his archers and hunt for RBTs. The Salamander can pull fire and lay down some templates.

    Well, at least that's the theory.

    thanks for help! and thanks for replying! i quite like this strat. on paper the sauruses should hold against the swordmasters and white lions with this stuff and they loads of attacks they get from horde and maybe spears as well.

    not sure if the skinks can challenge the eagles, unless u mean trying to hurt em with poison shots when they are charging or just redirecting them? so with poisons, id need 12 skinks with poison firing at them when they charge. statistically get 2 wounds, and if lucky get the third one in melee and kill one eagle. he will prob wield them in one eagle pack me thinks : ) tho i dont know what their armour save is. maybe 5+? or so which means they prob wont kill one when one is charging. also RBT will prob kill my skinks though its better than them firing at the sauruses.

    also not sure about what to do with the remaining 300 points, maybe swap the TG for something else. i dont know. hmmzzz

    hi and thanks for replying. am not sure if the scar vet can really hold his own. im very likely to be against str 5-6 swordmasters or white lions. thats too much down in the armoursave department.. but otherwise i was thinking of something like this since im worried about the he melee specials. also terradon rock dropping is always nice ^^ park em begind a boulder or something when vanguarding. though id need a marching movement the next turn to drop those rocks. ld 5 thats risky as the archers and RBT will mow them down certainly if they fail : ( also if they go and drop rocks theyr prob gonna be killed by eagles the next turn as well. nevertheless i still dig flying lizards droppin rock on em :D and if theyr not killed they can indeed get the bolt throwers the next turn.
    like the boundspell with these low lvl casters though

    Ok had the game yesterday...

    was suprised alot.

    40 strong saurus box just shred through everything :D even though i managed to get wyssans off only once...
    was against white lions, swordmasters and silverhelms. They were twindled to 16 units and a Scar vet in the end (the scarvet rolled horribly all game long). Had 400 points total remaining. HE player got completely wiped out.

    Went better than expected :D

    Heya, read through this thread since I am doing a couple 1000pt battles today (vs Daemons though), and figured I would comment, as you ended up going with something similar to what I do vs high elves.

    40 saurus horde is very very effective alot of the time vs HE, especially backed by the skink skirms and/or stegadon. something I havnt tested vs HE is the Bastilidon, did you go with that for this battle? if so, did you use the solar engine? or did you go with the arc and back it with some swarm madness for the st 2 on t 3?

    I didnt try it in this game. But have tried a indeed a bastiladon in my ranks. What happened was that he was my only "spell caster". so hes first lazor was dispelled by a dispel scroll.. second lazer was dispelled by dispel dice, and by then the high elf cavalry caught him and eventually turned it to dust :D so didnt really have much use out of him. Ive only played 1000p games but in paper i like the bastiladon, with the lazer imean. . but havent had real use of him as of late. I ended up losing that game. My plan was to shoot some white lions with it but in that game, i could have used the points someway else more efficiently. i need some more experimenting before i say dont take it or do take it.

    as i see it, rippers kill HE cavalry, salamanders kill core infantry and swordmasters, crazy amount of saurus and/or bastiladon kill white lions and phoenix guard, skinks kill eagles and redirect.
    testosterone pump'd up cowboy scarvets can tie up cavalry with or without nobles for a good amount of turns untill they manage to get rid of him, if they can get rid of him.
    dont like bolt throwers much but ive noticed they arent too dangerous actually. chamos or flyers can take em out if u want

    my enjoyment is that my opponent doesnt like proxying himself much but is ok when i do it so i know what he will be taking every time :D so ive had a steggy in place of the bastiladon :D
