    hey guys,

I was recently pondering what additional army to play and after making some sample lists with a number of armies i would have access to (TK, WoC, Daemons, Beasts or O&G, in addition to my main HE army) i really started to enjoy the options presented by the lizardmen army book. i like to play movement based armies with combat presence and lizzies just seem to be able to do that :)

so last weekend i broke out my very old saurus and skinks, and combined with the models my brother had laying around gathering dust i was able to put down quite a number of models for some test runs (basically missing out on some flyers and the bastilodons)

i played 2 games against a friend playing a very fast, MSU based darkelf list and must say i really enjoyed both games. i thought i would just put down my list here for discussion purposes and maybe to write down findings on what worked well and what worked not so well for these and future games.

anyway on to the list i plan to use for the next games:

    Lords:
Oldblood on coldone, LA, gw with Stubborn crown, 4+, charmed shield
    Heroes:
Bsb: scar veteran on cold one with armour of destiny and a gw
Scar veteran on cold one with dragon helm, luckstone, gw, La and the egg of guano
lvl 2 Skink Priest with dispel scroll
lvl 2 Skink Priest with cube of darkness
    Core
Skink Cohort (10) with one krox
Skink Cohort (11) with one krox
17 saurus wariors with std and musician
    10 Skink Skirmishers
    10 Skink Skirmishers
    10 Skink Skirmishers
    Special
    Bastilodon with solar engine
    Bastilodon with solar engine
    5 Chameleons
    5 Chameleons
    5 Ripperdactyls
    3 Terradons
    3 Terradons
    6 Cold One riders
    Rare
    1 Salamander

basically this was the list i used in my previous games with some minor changes:

changed the gear on my cowboys around a bit. in the games i played i had: OB with -1 to hit armour, 5+ ward and crown, bsb with steg helm and other cowboy as is. thoughts on what is better? in one of the 2 games by OB went down to warmachine fire turn 5, thought this would help a bit.

-i only had one skrox unit and one min sized cohort. however i loved the skrox unit while finding the bare-cohort inferior to the skirmishers for anything other then chaffing. so i decided to throw in another kroxigor and have two small support units rather than one support unit and some chaff. will have to try out if this works but i like the principle of a cheap shooting unit that can threaten flanks and hold the occasional charge (5+ & parry rules :D )

-to find points for the extra krox i dropped 2 saurus and spears off the coldone riders

other than that my list stayed more or less the same.

    experience:

i pulled out one minor and one crushing victory vs more or less the following DE list:

2x fastcav Noble (1 general, 1 bsb) with stuff

    3x darkriders

    3x 10 whichelves

    2x 5 shades, 1x 9 shades

    2 coldone chariots

    2 scourgerunner chariots

    3 RBT's

    2 units of warlocks

2 medusae (these things are annoying vs us lizzies!)

    my innitial findings were:

-skrox units are cool! small enough to be expendable but dangerous enough to require attention

-Rippers ROCK! in game 1 they ate 5+ 9 shades and 2 RBT, while in game 2 they ate the remnants of a unit of darkriders with the BSB, another RBT and some more shades, all without giving up their points!

-the bastilodons give me a decent magic phase and are actually not that bad in combat (vs infantry)

-i used chameleons too much as chaff, their shooting is impressive so i shouldn't throw them away unless needed

-i found the salamander somewhat hard to use in my first games, usually getting just one proper shot of. maybe this was due to my opponents list (many units, high move values) but i also need to use them better.

so, these were my first experiences with the lizzies, and so far i loved it. if you have any comments on the list, on my "findings" or questions about choices or about the battles, please go ahead :D

    cheers,

    J

i ran heavens magic on both skink priests last time but im thinking of giving beasts a go as well. i chose heavens mainly for protection against warmachines and the ability to manipulate combats with the signature spell. but i can see wildform being very good on skrox units as well... will have to test it some more.
