My first Lizardmen (and Warhammer) army

Hey guys,
I am a 40k player who has (recently) decided to try Warhammer Fantasy. Looking at Storm of Magic and the new models GW AND my passion for dinosaurs, I have chosen the Lizardmen.

I don't have a proper fluff yet, but it basically goes something like this.
1.Ancient Lizardmen Temple City built near the coast of Lustria
2.Kind of forgotten about
3.Slann leader of the Temple City is entrusted with an ancient artefact
4.Temple City attacked by Dark Elves/Daemons
5.Survivours kind of 'de-evolve' and become more savage than usual
6.Slann need the ancient artefact back (because they think it survived the attack)
7.Terradon Patrol encounter survivors led by Oldblood Ry'pper, an ancient Saurus riding upon the back of Gorgon ( a Carnosaur)
8. Slann tells recently rediscovered guys to go punch guys

Pretty basic fluff, but, yeah

So my list 2,500 points, plus options if needed be for Storm of Magic (Dread Saurian here I come )
I am going to be keeping a modeling/ painting etc blog on here
I am currently working on a CanCon 40k Apocalypse army so I won't post to often and I am slow moving soon, so not much painting then either.

I haven't got PVA for bases or decided on a colour yet, so the first few pics (coming in about a day or so?) will be assembly pics

So what are you thinking of starting with?

 

I've used plastic glue on the bases for ages without any noticeable difference from my opponents bases (besides the smell) - but i did recently buy PVA glue to see if that doesn't do the job nicer, noone ever told me what to use

and ye, Axolotyl's questions springs to mind : what are you gonna start with?

 

I am starting with a 2,500 point army, i have started assembly and will be uploading some pics of models i have assembled so far in a few minutes. Might do a test Saurus or Skink today...or paint my Space Marine Land Raider. Maybe both.
For my starters I am going to paint my Core (Saurus with 16, Saurus with 20, Skink with 20 and Skiink Skirmishers 12) and then my Heroes (Skink Priest Level 2x3, Chief on Ripperdactyl) and then my Lords (Oldblood on Carnosaur) and then vary between Rare (Ancient Stegadon w/Engine of the Gods) and Special (3 Terradons, 10 Temple Guard and 8 Cold Ones). Probably do stuff for Storm of Magic somewhere in between. Long answer short, Infantry then leaders then monsters.

Painting wise I think I am gonna go with classic blue lizards or maybe bright green. I get to many ideas from looking at other peoples blogs...


And names for army anyone? I have NO idea how naming a Lizardman army works (but I do know with Space Marines )

Hey guys,

Played a game of Warhammer today (ogre scum...) and lost horribly. Afterwards I decided to get it on! All I did was put some basing materials on some units bases
Wednesday will be painting day, planing on painting my 36 Saurus, and 32 Skinks (all split between different units)


And I want a sniper

 

fast painter!

My record is 18 skinks in 8ish hours, but that there seems like an epic project.

Have my own vry similar project planned atm, just waiting for a box of terradons before i start (though mine will all be chiefs, using the parts from my 3 terra kits.

 

I am not a fast painter. By that I mean paint one unit, while one part of it is drying do another etc. I probably won't get all that done tomorrow anyone

 

Also apart from looking cool Terradons have no use. I had stupidly already assembled them as Terradons when I found out they suck and Ripperdactyls are awesome. I will be sometime probably getting another box (and a Bastiladon and Troglodon) to make Ripperdactyls

 

Terradons have great use.

Mobile Combat resolution (flank / rear charges)
Drop rocks to clear chaff.
Hold up warmachines in CC so they can't shoot.
Knock off regen with flaming bolas.
Redirect.
Be a general nuisance for only about 100ish pts.

 

Agreed, Terradons are actally very useful and much easier to use than Rippers...

 

I see your point, but in my game they (quite literally) killed one model with a lucky roll with a rider throwing a javelin.
Anyway... over the past few days I got up to some painting. Finished 12 Skink Skirmishers, Ancient Stegadon /w Engine of the Gods and a Skink Priest. I am half way from finishing another Priest and 16 Saurus Warriors

I also swapped out my Olblood on Carnosaur and Temple Guard and Terradons for a Slann Mage Priest (Mage-Priest Rip'Pit!) and a Scar Veteran on Carnosaur.

Incase you can't tell in the pics the Skinks/Saurus are Dark Blue with Grey Scales on their backs, the Stegadon is Dark Blue with Ice Blue Scales and the Slann is Hawk Turquoise with Grey Stomach

From what I can see they look decently painted but the light source is behind them? The shadow cast means we only get a glimpse of the models?

 

Sorry about that! I had a bad light source at the time, but my Golden Demon winning friend hasbsaid they look great forsomeonemy age. I have now moved (yay!) And tomorrow Iwillbe painting my Cold Ones overthe next 2 days, thenthe saurus unit for the next 2 days and then my carnosaur riding character fo 1 day. I mightjust make the tournament!
