Played two 500 point games today; first games ever. Here was my list:

    Skink Chief -
    Light armor
    Shield
    Blowpipe
    Venom of the firefly frog

    Skrox -
    24 skinks
    2 kroxigor

    Skink skirmishers x10

    Chameleons x5

    Salamander -
    Extra handler

Alright, so I played both games against an empire player. First game he fielded a big block of swordsmen, a big block of halberdiers, and a unit of greatswords with a warrior-priest. Second game he used three ten man units of gunners, a mortar, and some kind of sniper guy.

Sorry if this is feeling like a batrep, I was trying to set up a bit of background for my question.

In both games my skirmishers and chamos were golden. In fact in game one, his unit of swordsmen and his unit of halberdiers did literally nothing the entire game because my skirmishers/chamos just kept running around them in circles and they were just too fast to catch. I call it the chameleon whirlwind. I had chamos on one and skirmishers on the other which I realized later was a mistake, and I should have been focusing my fire on one at a time. Even so they did pretty well panicking off one unit and killing some of the other. With focus firing though I bet I could have gotten them both. Something to remember for next time!

Salamander did alright. I didn't quite get the hang of him till game two where he burned off a unit no problem.

What didn't do so well was the skrox unit. Game one they were okay I suppose. They killed most of the greatswords, but eventually they lost all the extra skink ranks and I failed my leadership test and got run down.

Game two... the mortar only got to fire once before the chamos finished off the crew, but that one shot was all it took to kill 18 skinks.

Maybe it was some bad luck? Maybe the greatswords were a mismatch for them (that warrior priest also killed like 10 skinks over the course of two rounds of combat because of some fiery bound spell).

So I'm wondering what are people's thoughts on always going with the minimum number of skinks needed for the amount of krox in the unit? I was going to use a few ranks of extra skinks for combat res, but they just seem to lose combat anyway and then if I lose the unit I've just lost 50 points more than I had to; not to mention it provides a much jucier target for pie plates. So I was pondering just minimizing the skinks for skrox units and spending any leftover points on more skirmishers.

a skrox unit is good as support, or taking on heavy cav, they get there asses kicked by most normal infantry units

and you learned the most important lesson, CHAMELIONS ARE GOLD!
i hope you had some fun, and that the lizzies are convincing u ;)

The minimum number of skinks are almost always going to be the maximum number of combat rez! I would rather field skinks without a kroxigor instead of the minimum number. When I play larger games, I will take at least 50-65 skinks in a unit with 3 or 4 Kroxigors (If I go 4, I will make it a horde unit). Anyway, that unit has a little more staying power than a unit of 3 Kroxigors with 24 skinks. Of course, it is more expensive.

You should try to use the unit as a support unit though. It will not do well against any elite units. It is fun to play though.
