A few months ago, I was leafing through a copy of the Empire rulebook and listening to my Ipod when Ennio Morricone's "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" came on and I realized that there isn't a historic U.S.A. based army in warhammer, but there easily could be. So, I decided to write it myself. Here is the first version of the book. The history isn't done, and I haven't put nearly enough magic items, but I have put all the rules for all the units, and I even included a few special characters. I've play-tested most of the army, and it works pretty well for what I wanted; a shooting army that is actually better against enemy close combat then it is against enemy shooting. If anyone has any ideas, comments, or criticisms, I'd be happy to hear it. I can't think of any talismans, arcane items, or any more enchanted items, so any ideas would be nice. Happy trails, ya'll! http://www.scribd.com/full/49056477?access_key=key-1hupkage8bvlcxt0hozm
That is interesting. How long did that take for you to write? Just curious. Are you going to model some figures for that army?
It took me about a month, working on the weekends and evenings. Also, I was planning on making a few models.
Looked through it prety well, I have to say it looks prety solid. Lots of special army book rules tho. The Buffolo mounts have some prety interesting rules, as do your mages. Not sure about the special rule for fleeing a charge... (forget what that one is called) does this only take effect if you flee through a friendly unit or something? Think I might need to be a little more Warhammery. Your fluff started out that way, but then it kinda went straight Western. With modern names for a lot of things and such. Also I think some units could use less options, sometimes there are just too many choicee for common weapons, it might be better if some units specialized in a certian weapon or two. but all around I think its a predy good army book.
I like the Buffalo rules as well. I think a bison is the only thing that could be a monstrous beast without causing fear. The rule is called "Fighting Withdrawal", it's part the way to make this army an anti shooting army that is bad against enemy shooting (you can't flee from arrows ) There are a lot of special weapons because they don't use many normal weapons. (longbows, halberds, ect.)
Hey, anyone have any suggestions for other items? I'm drawing a total blank here. I sort of had an idea for the armies one (and only one) magical flag, to be given to the BSB. I was thinking of calling it "The Grand Old Flag". I also came up with some lore for it: The Grand Old Flag was once the heraldry of Foothold as a province to the Empire, until Foothold was cut off from their former allies. Now, the flag has been taken up as the symbol of Foothold the Nation, after all traces of Empire were removed, of course. Not a single person in Foothold does not recognize the bright, bold flag as a symbol of their country. Problem is, I have no idea what the flag should actually do. Any suggestions?
hmmm, it sounds like a stubborn causing item. Perhaps it grants stubborn/steadfast to all friendly units within X distance, most likely 12, possibly 18 depending on points cost? Otherwise it could be along the lines of; The Grande Old Flag adds d3+1 to Combat Resolution instead of the usual 1. One thing to note for the 8th ed army books, if we are drawing from the O&G book, is that there seems to be fewer army specific magic items. We'll get a better look at this possible change with the TK book that is coming next. (Also, I kinda want to do a Canada book now, but the only thing I can think of is Mounties, lol)
how about a lucky coin, (one use only) [10 points] when in close combat you may flip a coin, if it comes up heads, you may reroll all misses, if it comes up tails reroll all sucessfull hits. "do ya feel lucky punk, well do ya"
Wow, impressive amount of work in there. Nicely done. Stand and shoot shotguns sounds pretty damn scary.
Well, if we're going to be humorous about this... You need a special rule called "America! Fuck Yeah!", maybe something that gives units a bonus on the turn they charge in to close combat.
