I know there have been a lot of these ideas, and some of the lores that I've seen have been pretty interesting but I came up with my own idea that I thought would be pretty interesting. What about, if instead of having to choose all your spells from 1 single lore a Slann, being the true masters of all magic, could instead choose to roll each spell against any magic lore. e.g. you could roll 1 dice against each of Fire/Life/Light/Death and get 1 spell from each? I think this would be pretty cool and could make some very interesting combinations. You could also say that if you choose to make him a Loremaster he can choose any "level 1" spell, any "level 2" spell and so on. I was thinking that instead of a lore attribute we could have "The Focused Rumination" as I think it is fair to say that 90% of players always take this and the attributes as they stand really need all the spells to come from 1 lore. You could even expand it to include the lores that are army unique, but that might be taking it a little far. What do people think? Personally I'd be very happy if they gave us this in our next book.
I love Homebrew concepts. The 6th Edition Slann did something similar but I believe that was just 2 lores.
That's how Slanns were in 6th edition. Back then magic missiles were the end all be all of the magic phase and one of the popular Slann builds was the "machine gun slann", which took a bunch of different lvl 1 magic missiles from different lores. With Loremaster I don't see why you would ever want to roll spells from different Lores, sticking with all spells from 1 lore is just way better, but I do like the concept just for fun. If Loremaster would enable you to make your own Lore, taking the best level 1 spell, the best level 2 spell and so on then it would be waaaay too powerful. Focused Rumination is balanced around the old magic system and is crazy powerful in 8th. I'm pretty sure all those kinds of items and abilities will be removed in the 8th edition of each book, but who knows, maybe Slanns will be even more bad ass in the new book.
